It's very similar to how the FWD Cobalt does so well, but is already near the limit of performance for a FF setup. With cars like the M3 and Vette, you can add power and come out with an even better end product, adding lots of power to the Cobalt and Camaro SS won't see a lot of usable benefit.
It's more the high weight that makes this thing unsuitable. If you give a car lots of power, it's common sense to give it at least halfway decent suspension.
In this case, the Camaro would not be hampered at all by its IRS, but by its heavy weight.
The M Coupe weighs 3300lbs, relatively light, 'only' has 338 bhp, yet goes 0-60 in 4.4 sec (R&T test). Yet that car has IRS and suspension, etc.
I'm not saying the M coupe is a valid comparison with the cars nearly 1,000 pounds heavier, but it goes to show that cars even like the modern muscle cars, can be a lot faster if they were more properly designed.
