highend/gaming system

Not a system I am buying, but I would nonetheless appreciate your input. First - how much do you think a system like this would go for? Second - what parts would you swap or upgrade? Keeping in mind that it would be a system intended for gaming, with the highest performance possible given today's technologies. What would you do?

i guess that system will go for $2000+ but i'm not sure how much ram or what kind of ram it is using

for that kind of money i would be p4 3.0 / is7 or ic7
i would also lose the 9800 XT for a 9800 pro
swap out the plextor for a NEC 1300A to save some money
no need for 2 NIC
swap out the 550W truepower for a lower wattage truepower

You do realize that you've listed six 512MB's and that board does not have six slots?

Ok first make sure the Kingston RAM has the hynix instead of Samsung chips of you will be overclocking. Second, if you are wanting the "highest performance possible stick with the 9800XT, it does offer a little better performance and costs quite a bit more, but cost was not in issue on the OP.

Toss the 3200XP and get the FX51.
You can keep all that RAM since money is not an issue but there is no practical use for much over 1024 MB.
The Raptor needs to go, and the Barracuda or Cheetah put in it's place, maybe two or more in a RAID setup since they are 36GB apiece.
Again no reason for the 550W PS but if you got the money for it... I guess that's your decision.

At the moment anything more than 1GB ias a waste of money, it might even slow down the perfomance a little in gaming situations.

The Raptor needs to STAY (they rock!) and you'll need ECC ram if going for the FX-51. I don't like the Z680s, so I'd probably go with the Cambridge Megaworks, especially since you're using an Audigy.

If you like the Raptor, keep it but the other will perform better under gaming situations IMO. The ECC RAM is a very good suggestion for right now, although this will be changing in the near future.
