How much am I looking to spend if I want to print 2400 color pages?

Nothing too fancy, just color documents..a couple places I called wanted .60-.70 a page--so about $1800 total.. Is that the norm basically?

It recently cost me $85 to print about 425 B&W pages (that included binding for 5 documents) so that seems about right for colour...unfortunately.

It depends. Since your description is so vague I'll go ahead and say that your ballpark sounds about right but that's not to say you can't find significantly cheaper.

Depends on how many colors, how much coverage, what type of paper - is it multiple pages or multiple copies of a single page etc.

If you're just doing a straight to digital press type deal I'd guess that's a normal range for a Kinko's type place. Our inhouse print shop does about $0.30 a page but it is a non-profit service.

For $1800, you could buy your own color laser printer and get it done.

Call up some places nearby that do large quantity printing. I know of some in Indiana, but that's not going to help you.

I would say that is close to the norm. Color = $$$. You can try to find a university printer (not a lab printer, but a whole printing department for school related books, dissertations, etc). University printing services tend to be half the cost of most for-profit stores, but they often take a week.

Or, if they aren't photos, color lasers do the job quite well. But for photos, color lasers tend to suck at the quality.

Are you wanting 8.5x11?

Are you looking at 1800 prints of one thing, or 1800 unique pages?

As others have mentioned, you can probably buy a color laser and do it yourself for less, if the quality's acceptable. Just buy nice (28 lb, high brightness) paper if a nicer print is important to you.

Call smaller print shops - if you give them a print-ready PDF, you can likely talk them down to $.50/pg or lower.

Wow, I didn't realize it was so expensive. I must have printed tens and thousands of dollars worth of pages in the past couple months at work then. :Q

although 0.6 - 0.7 is the norm, there's got to be some place you can find that does it for ~0.5 because of the sheer volume of the job.

Get yourself a Phaser 8560. http://www.office.xerox.com/printers/color-printers/phaser-8560/spec-enus.html

Solid Ink will kick any laser printer's ass and it is fast, up to 30ppm in colour. We have 2 at work :)

so do we :D and the chunks of ink aren't too spendy

I think I should make a mould of the black ink and just remelt the wasted ink into black :)

we also have one of these... Epson Stylus Pro 9800

You can have it digitally printed at a local printing press. One of the jobs i had printed a month or so back was in full color, one-sided, 8.5 x 11, 80# gloss text. All for $516+tax (Qty: 2,500, roughly $0.20/pc.). It also gets cheaper per unit as the print count goes up.

The quality is also much better than any laser printer i know of.
