I am 18 going on 19 next month, In the UK the drinking age is 18 not 21, I have been drinking for , maybe two years.I am quite educated in I.T and still attending education so I?m no Alcoholic Bum.

The thing is when I go out on a Saturday , I drink about 9 pints of stella ( 5 %) and maybe a few shots of vodka, I get drunk but Im still in control, my speech goes a bit and I slur but Im having the time of my life, now I don?t want to damage myself in later years or in fact now. On Tv in the run up to Christmas there?s a lot about Alcohol abuse and the like. I did a search and I couldn?t really find what I wanted to know. I don?t want to cut back, but If I need to I will, but can anyone put any input to this ?

You're fine. I drink every day and Im a student. Everyone says I have a drinking problem and I should cut back, but what for? I think it's common behavior for someone my age (22) and I should have the fun I want to have now, because in a few years, I wont be able to do this anymore.

Drinking every day (in excess of a glass of a beer or a glass of wine with dinner) is not normal behavior. It doesn't matter if you're a student or not.

You can NEVER drink too much.

Yes I do black out on average once a weekend. Yes I am a waste of life who will need a new liver by 25. Oh well, you're only young once.

if you slur around a bunch of ppl who are also drunk, what difference does it make. alcohol over time is bad on the liver. Only bad on your brain when you run head-on into a tree

yea i agree with this dude. drinking everyday is not common behavior for a typical 22 age person. i just turned 23 this past november, and never in my 20's did i drink everyday, nor did any of my friends. if someone your age finds that as being 'common behavior' then they are not in the majority of the people.

I guess it's just a different lifestyle. Not all college students are the same.

If you are English and you only go out binge drinking once a week, you are ahead of the curve...

I abide by the philosophy as long as I can remember the night, I didn't drink too much. Once you start having black outs, you've past the too much alcohol line.

Now blacking out won't kill you, but if you want to draw a line in the sand, I'd say draw it there.

Nah, nothing beats having to be told about your night. Its a blast. Or wondering how you ended up waking up where you woke up. I've done that many times...go to drink at one friends' apartment, wake up in another that I don't even remember going to. Ahh University Crossings, the greatest apartment complex ever. Unless you live there.

Nah, draw the line when you blackout AND wake up with something hideous in bed next to you.

I get drunk, but I just worry, I slur , but hardly ever throw up, I don?t like only having one or two cos It just sets me up, I am ok or would you stop if you were me ?

I have about 9 pints and a few shots of vodka each week ( on one night).

so true. In a year or so I won't be able to do it anymore so why stop.

As long as your not drinking and driving and its not effecting your grades, jobs, relationships, just do it and have some fun.

BTW, having about 15-16 drinks in a night is pretty dam good for being 18. Once you can take down a case, post again.

In all serious though, when you do physical harm to yourself as a result of drinking, then it's time to take a step back from the sauce.

I guess you're right. Some love cirrhosis, and some don't.
