How much a year do you spend on gift giving?

TallBill

Lifer
So far this year, my wife and I (really my wife) has given almost $400 in gifts for whatever occaisions. Christmas itself will be huge, and neither of us believes in Santa or baby Jesus. How do I get out of the damn gift giving. I dont want any from anyone either.

Stop giving and you shall stop receiving. It's that simple.

Way too much! My sister has recently married into a rich family, and I'm suddenly getting WAY outspent on birthday and holiday gifts! I end up having to spend $1,000 a year just to keep from looking like a cheap bastard.

But with the tax free pay, hazard pay, and family sep you should be able to afford this 😉.

Stay safe!

Yes, I can but I dont want to. Dont forget the extension pay that we'll hopefully get during our last 3 months 😛

Don't buy gifts for holidays. I would much rather get something for someone for no reason at all other than the fact that I found something that I could afford that I think they would really appreciate.

Heh, exactly how I think. But not the wife.

about $2000 we spend a year roughly...not counting what my wife and I buy ourselves/each other.

The easiest way to get out of gift giving is to simply call your 'list' and state you would only like to exchange cards this year.

Hehe, I don't want to exchange cards either. Not because I'm cheap but because birthdays are absolutely retarded. And christmas makes no sense for two athiests. Hell, it doesn't make sense for christians.

Bah, Humbug!

This weekend was my birthday... $1,000 was spent on me (from the b/f and myself). then the kids across the street had a communion and confirmation on sunday. Both on the same friggen day. They are cousins, so the party was combined. That was another $400. then mother's day... that was another $250.

it feels like it never ends.

Ah. That sucks. My wife's views are somewhat like mine. She still gets things for her family because she "has to". My birthday present to her is still "pending", because I can't find exactly what I want, and her birthday was in February. And she still loves me. 😀

I might just get her the dual core processor she mentioned that she wouldn't mind having--my wife rocks.

Last Xmas I made a donation to Child's Play instead of sending cards. I sent an e-mail to everyone that would have received a card explaining this and no-one complained. Some people replied saying they would do something similar this year.
