How MMORPG's save money

I gotta say that WoW is saving me some money (ie if theres a movie i kinda want to see, but not really, i'll spend the time playing wow). I haven't cancelled my TV since i still want to watch it

i dunno man, everything you said is kinda scary. I still eat normally and try to maintain normal social interactions... maybe you should go outside and get some freshair It's good for you AND free!

hey, i wonder if they have funerals on everquest? say a member dies or quits after a really long time, they could bury the online character and fellow nerds could speak about them, hmm. this has to have already happened.

Heh, you can boil it down to simple math.

Take what you paid for WoW and at the end of your free month, type "/played" and see how many hours you've been playing. Divide what you paid by how many hours you played. (you'll get a "dollars per hour" number).

Now try to remember how long you play most games (probably less than 40 hours for many games). Then divide what you paid for one of those by how many hours you played that game. Maybe you paid $50 for Doom 3, beat it in like 20 hours, and never played it again (I know I did).

In your second month of WoW, you'd just subtrace the /played hours you had at the end of the first month and use $15/14/13 for the cost you paid that month.


EDIT: The addiction will lessen when you hit level 60. Did for me, I'm here typing this post, aren't I?

oye, i didn't have a life though before i started playing, i did before i moved, but not here, most of the kids at my school are rich and stuck up, annoy the sh!t out of me, or i haven't met them, so i figgured, what the hell, i play with my friends from work though, so its fun, it's worth the 15 a month for me, i do my hw before i play and if i ever findsomeone i don't hate i'd rather hang out with them, but, haven't had much luck yet...

its cheap entertainment for sure, but I will easily spend the time with my girlfriend any day and keep a social aspect going. Granted I still have about 4 days solid of playing time since I have gotten the game. So yes it has saved me some money on gas.

He's right, for someone like me who have no need for social life. (I'm married, and some of my other married friend also play WOW).

I cut my subscription for Netflix down from 5 to 2.
I stop eating out, and sometimes skip dinner.
I shop only 1/2 as long for Christmas and purchased lot of cheap stuff from Pier 1 Imports clearance store.
I stopped my Dishnetworks service until further notice.
No purchases of new game for awhile.
No upgrades of pc parts for awhile. (it'll play on crappy computer and my laptop well)

Most bashers are claiming that the normally used alternative to playing mmogs is having a life, but it's not - it's vegging out in front of a tv for hours a day. At least mmogs are cheaper, offer social interaction, and aren't made with an average consumer IQ of 85 in mind. There's no reason players can't keep up on live social interaction, fitness, or other hobbies... it's not an either-or thing. TV is probably far worse, bashers just can't admit that because it's something they actually do, and they consider themselves normal (most people do, duh) while mmog playing isn't. So go get off on someone eating a rat or other things equally devoid of acting, producer budget, taste and entertainment and leave this thread be. Better yet, try to emulate your TV idols by eating your own rats, preferably diseased ones :evil:
