How many years before we run out of fossil fuels?

The numbers I've heard tossed around are 40-150 years.

I don't know why the range is so large. Maybe 150 is assuming better technologoy and ignoring the fact that China is coming online. Maybe hte 40 includes China and assumes technology will not evolve.

The scary fact is that it's been something like 30 years since a large ammount of oil has been discovered in the Earth. I doubt we'll find some miracle supply. TEch has to be developed now or gas prices in say 20 years will be outrageous. If you like this scenerio, jsut vote for Bush.
