Thats right.....and it's much faster....I was gonna leave the work PC but I think I shall have to change that too 😉

Greetings.....it's me again! I am cracking away still.....slowly but surely 😉

I have just installed on a non Win2k program for the first time....do I need a different CLI program for this? just it seems to be giving quite slow times for a Pentium III 700mhz (I think around 16hrs / WU).

The fever is hitting me...I am trying to install it everywhere...

Customer: whats that little blue symbol thats appeared down by the clock
Me: erm....err.....it's your computers self destruct mechanism....don't click it, your PC will explode!
Customer: oooh....right, i'll stay away from that then!

😀

Has the SETI@HOME program ever been mentioned on TV??

I do remember hearing a commercial, and in the background, the SETI@HOME GUI client was running. I have never seen it myself.

I am not sure if this counts, but in the Movie "007: Goldeneye", there is a scene in a satalite area, I believe the final battle/fight is staged there. That satalite is used for SETI@Home, as it scans the skies and sends the results of the scanning to Berkley, and Berkley cuts em up into little WUs for our little PC's to crunch. The satalite is located is in Acribo (Spelling), Puerto Rico.

SETI is a common acronym in any Sci-Fi movie/channel/subject. I've heard a mention of SETI, but no mention of the SETI@Home DC project. I do recall some webpages showing it off though.

Perhaps others will know.

You should be getting around 9hours per WU on that PIII-700 (100FSB ?)
So it is a little slow, you can use the same CLI on all version of Windows though.

cheers,

Col

I wonder what you customers will think when that "self-destruct" turns yellow and then red? :Q

And just remember, in general, you need permission from the owner of the system.

I think there was an episode of JAG that involved SETI@Home. And yes, there was a CDW commercial with just a momentary glimpse of it. But the JAG show went into much more detail.

Edit: Oh, and that CLi will work on everything from Win95 with Winsock2 up, I believe.

P.S. This is kinda OT, but would you like to join the Virtual Interteam Race? We need all the people we can get.

lol ,self destruct🙂
And yeah you sahould get permission to run SETI on other peoples PC's.

Yes it has ,even here in the UK! 😉 ,sometime in mid to late summer of 1998 Tomorrows World did an article on it ,that's was the very 1st time I heard about it ,I remember thinking ,*wow! ,cool! 😀 ,wish my PC was on the net!🙁* ).Over a year latter & afew months after being on the net I remembered it again & ran it😉.

Btw the WU prediction isn't accurate until about 50% of the WU is complete.

Glad to see you've got the fever 😀😉
