How many watts does a small refrigerator use?

Turns out I'll be living at home for at least another year (car insurance will jump $100/month if I move out, plus rent/utilities/phone/internet )

So to make things a little more comfortable and easier for me I'm looking at getting one of those really small refrigerators for my room.

I'm looking at either a 4.3 cu ft refrigerator, a 1.8 cu ft refrigerator or something in between. All depends on how much wattage it uses. Don't want to hear the parents complaining about power consumption so I'd like to let them know how much power it takes first.

I highly doubt you'll notice an increase with either. Under $5 month for either. You can find that in the couch

Sanyo SR-4310... theres 4 Haier models that are 1.8... don't know which one... but i couldn't find anything on their site anyway.

The watts aren't the important thing for refrigerators since they cycle on and off and the key is how long they run. I did a quick search and found that the energy ratings for compact refrigerators generally range from 250 to 400 kwhr per year. Multiply that by your local energy costs. If it's $0.10 per kwhr, it will cost $25 to $40 per year to run the thing (as long as you keep the door closed most of the time).

Damn, beat me. But yeah, it's going to cost about $2.25/mo.. .. Probably less, if your electricity is cheaper than 0.0829/kWh.

It will help if you keep things with lots of mass in the fridge.. It won't cycle as much.

They only make noise when the compressor is operating.

All refrigerators do, I don't think there is much you can do to get around it. I imagine that some are quieter than others, but....

how much does it cost to keep my comp on all day? It's a dell 4550 so whatever the psu is that came with it is however much wattage it has. How much does ti actually use though?

You have to add up the wattage of all the components(into kilowatts) and then calculate how many hours its on each day times how much your electricity is per kWh.

Since it's usually hard to find the power usage of all your cards, you just kinda have to guess for a lot of things.

It's not really that expensive though. Even if it uses 250W constant.. which I doubt it does, unless you've got a dualie setup and a boatload of drives or something.. that's only 6kWh/day.. Our cost per kWh here in Portland, OR is 0.0744/kWh.. so that would make it about 45 cents a day, or 13$/mo.

Most computers don't use anywhere near 250W constant though, I would consider that worst case scenario.

We keep it in the bedroom (main fridge is upstairs) and stock it mostly with beverages.

I guess. If you need to store 2 liters or gallon jugs get the larger 4.3
