- almost drowned when i was 11 or 12, total stranger jumped in and saved me, he swam a ridiculous (seemingly impossible) distance in a matter of seconds, brought me to shore and threw me on the beach like a sack of potatoes. no f'n clue how the hell he got there so quick.

- narrowly missed rear-ending a car doing about 65 mph. i jerked the wheel at the last second and my 89 chevy beretta shitbox made a ridiculous lateral move that shouldn't have been possible

Hanging otu with some friends when I was 14, naturally no parental supervision. buddies dad had an AR 15 that we were messing with. We got to put it up so we put the mag back in, friend didnt realize safety was off and it had one in the chamber. my face was about 6" to the side of the barrel. I didn't get hit thankfully or my head would be splattered all over my buddies kitchen, but the barrel kicked back into my mouth causing my front 2 teeth to bite through my lip

Other than that, nothing. No car wrecks, falls more than ~10 feet, close calls in traffic all under 40mph so no real danger

Around 12 years old was downhilling on a BMX bike, no helmet or pads of course, and went over the handle bars and ass over tea kettle. Woke up sometime later with a mangled face and cuts and bruises head to toe.

2-3 times - he always blinked first

First was when I put a vehicle through a telephone pole and its guy wire 5 ft above the ground.
vehicle was totaled by a buckled frame; yet no scratch on it.
Height was determined by broken branches on the tree.

Jumped out of a second floor (first floor to you Brits) bedroom window at the age of 18 months, landing on concrete. Some bruises, but I escaped without any broken bones. I can still remember doing this.

Born 8 weeks early tube in the lungs 10 days in ICU.

Almost got crushed by my deck when I drove through the supports

Had a cop pull a shotgun on me at my friends house (we were shooting beer cans with a pellet gun and the neighbor called the cops said we we were shooting cats with an ar-15) I was still holding the pellet gun and someone knocked on the door at 3am it was a cop and a few of his buddies screaming SHOW ME YOUR HANDS PUT THE GUN DOWN ARGGHHH.. Luckily once they realized it was a pellet gun they all calmed down. We got a citation and the judge threw it out and just warned us about no discharging weapons in the city limits. Even though all a pellet gun does is go PSHHHH

Once.

I was a passenger in a vehicle that lost control entering the freeway, driver was going to fast on the on-ramp. We spun out, crossed the median, did a 180 and hit an 18-wheeler. We were going one direction at about 40 miles an hour, 18-wheeler was doing 60-65 the other direction. That's a 100mph collision with a big rig, shouldn't have survived that one...

-When I was still in the womb the doctor's had to break my mother's water, they used this hook thing and hooked my eyelid (pretty neat scar) lol
-When I was a kid I used to love jumping on couches.... until i fell off of one as busted my eye open.
-On a separate occasion of "couch jumping" i fell and busted the left side of my head open.
-I was born a breach baby, meaning i was against my mother's spine AND I came out with my head facing down, which resulted in nearly my entire body being covered in bruises.
-This isn't really me but when i was born my mother almost died, now she has a heart problem because of it, and she can't drink caffeine or she'll die.

I haven't really lived long enough to have really serious stuff (I'm only 19) but I'm sure there are times I've avoided certain death without even knowing it.

Way too many times to count!
Had a lot of close calls while working High Steel for 5 years, plus a multitude of other Construction & car accidents I shouldn't have survived.
The worst was in the early 80's, fell from a beam, 70' above the solid concrete floor. Dropped about 30' & landed on a uni-strut holding a light fixture, that's what stopped me.
Broke a bunch of ribs, hard to get around for over a year, but if I hadn't hit that uni-strut, the concrete would surely have killed me.

At boy scout camp (I was 12 maybe) about 20 years ago some dumb kid turned around with a loaded .22 rifle and smacked the barrel on a post for the roof, and caused him to pull the trigger. Bullet went though my canteen under my arm, and I was about 100' feet away behind the range. The range master freaked out because he saw the puff of dirt behind me and thought it went though me. For some reason it didn't even phase me. I told the kid he owed me a new canteen and the range master bought me a really nice one. I got my pro-marksmen qualification later in the day, heh.

To make a long story short; doctor told my mother that she could not get pregnant. 9 months later...oops.

So my whole life has been one big illusion. Thanks modern medicine.

A runaway truck passed within 6' of me at the bottom of a 15%(estimated) grade
A flatbed truck locked up it's brakes and slid past me(about 3' away) when I was walking on the side of a highway.
I slipped off a bridge form and caught myself about 2" away from a piece of rebar going through my neck.
I miscounted lanes in the road, took off running and slammed into the side of a car that was going about 40mph
I rolled a car going about 60mph
Brakes went out on my Thing, and I was coming up on a flatbed truck. I quickly snapped the wheel, and just broke the windshield instead of getting decapitated.
Was driving to work one morning paying more attention to the sunrise in my rear view mirror than driving and neglected to notice someone turning in front of me. Again fast steering wheel action saved me from a bad crash at 60mph. Was driving a full sized van also, and somehow didn't roll it.
Had that same van sideways on some black ice on a fairly narrow highway and 12'+ drop offs on either side.
Again in that van, I almost dropped it into a creek driving in snow in WV. I was on a paddling trip at the time. This one wasn't death inducing, but it would have been many miles walking to even find a phone, and I don't know how the hell it would have gotten out of the creek. The roads were very inaccessible, and the creek was about 10' down.

Anyway, he and I have met on numerous occasions...and I always managed to survive the ordeal...but a couple of times...it was close. (I'm not sure if I survived...or he threw me back) :p

3 times I think.
First when I was 4, lightning struck the metal shed behind me, knocked me to the ground, was okay though, mom said I was laughing about it .
Second when I was 18 , Navy doing trials for vaccines to use in first gulf war, anthrax vaccine, nearly died, spent weeks in isolation.
Third when I was 29 , ran into bridge pylon at about 50MPH on the interstate, car skidded sideways and fell off overpass, concussion, broken leg, broken teeth.

Got zapped with 550 volts hooking up a large deiseil generator once. Luckily it only went through my hand, which was tingly for nearly a week. But I did jump about 5 feet in the air.

Almost drowned a few times.

Had several bullets whiz past or ding something near me.

Working for my dad when I was a teenager, almost fell off several high rises.

Could probably come up with a ton more

A few broken bones from bmx racing and cycling.
The garage thief I posted about several years ago that I hit with a solid steel rod was armed.
Knife pulled on me in middle school bathroom, asked if I wanted to die in Spanish.
Near burglary in my old apartment, but I was waiting behind my couch with a Sig Sauer. It's Texas, I can kill people.

There's definitely something about hearing a bullet whiz by your ear...you KNOW that had to be close...

-Got hit by a boat when I was 7 or 8, almost lost my hand.
-Got caught in a tide at the ocean and sucked out so far I could hardly see land... finally figured out how to get back to land (swim parallel to it) and it took almost 2 hours to swim back in and I ended up a mile or so down the beach
-At the Wedge surfing, took a really really bad fall face crunched into sand and heard cracking in my back, dislocated my shoulder
-Almost drowned another time, cant remember everything about it
-Got shot at in LA (I was in my car, drove away quickly)
-On wet road I hadnt driven on before, I took a tight corner too tight (didn't realize how steep it was) and went down a hill on the otherside, flew through air aroound 20' or so
-Dislocated my knee before, and it still happens occasionally. (not a brush with death I guess, but I was jumping off a two story building)
-Free (rock) Climbing, basically got to a point where I had to jump as far and as hard as I could to make it out.
- Hiking (cant even remember where, maybe Colorado or Northern Cal) but passing through a river with a 60 pound pack on my back, all of the sudden a huge wall of water came at us, luckily we all got out.
- Got Stung about 100 times by bees after throwing rocks at a hive (not allergic, but didn't know at the time, I was a kid)
- Hiking through a familiar area, jumped off a rock and landed on a rattlesnake, killing it, I had no idea it was there. (It was not full grown, the juvenile ones are almost worse than the adults)
-Got (electrically) shocked by some lines on time, knocking me on my ass
-I work in Construction, so typical work accidents have happened to me... almost came off some scaffolding 2 stories up, 12 foot ladders, etc.
I am sure there are more...

There's definitely something about hearing a bullet whiz by your ear...you KNOW that had to be close...

Do you mean close to the gun or to the bullet?

If close to the gun, you definetly cant hear the whiz, that usually only happens at a distance.

And you dont really have to be close to the bullet to hear it either, on a calm night you could hear it 20 to 30 feet or so away... either that or it was closer than I thought on some occasions.

If its too close, it more like a snap in your ear instead of whiz.
