How many times do you let it ring?

when your calling someone how many times do you let the phone ring before you hang up?

If I'm on the payphone or using a cell phone, I let it ring about 3 times and hang up. Sometimes the answering machines can get tricky and pick up on the third time 🙁 Bastards.

If I'm particularly irritated with the person I'm calling, I'll wait for 5 or 6 rings and then just put the phone down and go about my business. If I think about it a couple of hours later I'll go back and hang up. The neighbors really hate it when I do that.

depends on the ringtone 🙂 My ringtone for my cell phone lasts so long that by the time its in the middle of the second ring the voicemail picks up.

If I'm calling from a payphone, I will not let it ring more than 3 times, because usually answering machines pick up on the 4th ring and the phone swallows my coins. I would rather call them three times, 3 rings apiece.
If I am using a regular phone, I let it ring AT LEAST 10 times before hanging up.

When I receive a call, I let it ring at least 2 times so that the call would register on the caller ID.

I usually let it ring 8 or 10 times I guess. Unless it is someone I know usually picks up quicker than that....
