How many threads?

I was trolling through Target today and decided to peruse the sheets-and-pillowcase aisle to look for some much needed replacements. It appears that I can get the el-cheapo 250 thread count stuff for ~$30 for a set+pillowcases, going up to $95+ for the 600 count. I assume Bed Bath and Beyond and the like has even more outlandish options.

Yes, it's within my limited abilities to rip open the package and rub them on myself, but I'm looking for experienced, insightful opinions as to just how much cash I should blow on this entirely questionable purchase. What say you ATOT? Waste of money or game-changer?

In my experience, the more comfortable the bed, the less likely that I'll want to get out of it when the alarm goes off. Obviously your choice of companion also plays a role.:D

So, el cheapo for me.

A good point. I can barely drag myself out of bed in the morning as it is.

BUMP!!!

I just got some 778 count sheets at BB&B. Its the most you can find for full-size beds (or double-size for europeans).

How many times should I wash them before they go on the bed?

I was thinking a full wash with cold water and lots of softener, then an hour in the dryer on "fluff". Repeat one time and it should be OK.

Next up:
I get a small dog and go to a Barbara Streisand concert.

When I bought sheets a few years ago, the 250 count ones looked so cheap they would fall apart in a few months. So I went with the 300 count bed in a bag :D. Value FTW!

I have the ability to fall soundly asleep on buses, couches, even floors. So obviously I wouldn't waste my cash on luxuries like extra threads.

fleece sheets > *

For summer, I have a set of pretty blue ones I got on clearance at some random store. They do the job but aren't anything special.

I have fleece sheets but after using them for so many years I find they get worse the more you wash them. The first wash with softener they are great, but after a few months they degrade slowly.
High thread count cotton sheets are supposed to get better each time you wash them, assuming you take proper care. The tag says warm wash and regular dry but I find my colors last longer if I use a cold wash, and they are just as clean.

Also, I have no idea what the hell a murse is. Am afraid to google it. Is it like Lemon Party? Cuz you bastards already got me with that one.

man purse

not nearly as bad as man boobs. Though given the chance, I would love my own set of perky tits.

Jersey sheets FTW. Sleeping on a T-shirt. For warmer weather, just wear less, or I have a set of standard 300-count sheets as well.

There isnt any, as such. Its soft cuz its fuzzy (not unlike my belly). But eventually through washing and rubbing, the soft fuzzy wears off (also not unlike my belly).

Interesting info about thread count.

I never really thought about it before.

Hmmm....I would have said 600 before reading that. That being said you can usually find some high thread count sheets on sale cheap somewhere at any given time. I would never pay $95+ for them

Same here. For some reason, I always thought 600 was the magic number. Informative read though.
