pics of said 28 pairs of dress shoes and at least 112 suits.

I'm going to assume you're kidding...but if not, there's gotta be overlap there.

Suppose these are your choices:
Black, Blue, Brown, Green, 5 shades of Grey :), Ivory, Khaki, Purple, White, Yellow
Pinstripes or no pinstripes
2 button or 3 button
Double breasted or single breasted

14 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 112

if i could manage to score a ticket to southeast asia i'd probably get 2 or 3 more.

I think we're on the same wavelength...I'm currently in Southwest Asia and am thinking about getting 3 or so...maybe more...

Problem is that I can't think of other colors besides black or dark gray or other styles beyond the generic single-breasted, two-button, split collar, etc. :(

don't get a black suit unless you're a pal bearer. or maybe an undertaker.

get a 3 button. get different types of pinstripes. get it cut for slim appearance. get 2 pairs of pants to go with the jacket, as those tend to need cleaning more often.

as my boss says, there are 5 shades of gray: undertaker gray, lawyer gray, banker gray, accountant gray, and used car sales man gray. i assume you can figure out which is the darkest and which is the lightest.

Ha. I like it :)

Though used car salesman don't strike me as positive...does that imply I should stop at accountant gray ;)

I don't own suits. If I did, I doubt I would own many. Getting them would involve shopping, which I hate to do!

anyway, i'm guessing that the tailors in the area probably have armani/zegna/nautica/whoever catalogs that you can flip through and see what looks nice. then they'll copy whatever you've picked. if not, go to a store selling high end suits, take notes, and then have the tailor make whatever.

I have four suits. All black for formalwear, three buttons, navy with pinstripes, two buttons, grey with no pinstripes and three buttons, and an "olive" suit with two buttons.

This is just about the only shopping I'll do in 2006 so I don't mind :)

I own one suit that doesn't fit me any more. I need to get a new one 2 sizes smaller before I go to my next dress-up affair (wedding, job interview, etc...)

4 suits one Hugo Boss suit, dark/ light grey colour (sorry had to describe). Very nice cut, fits great.

3 other suits made to the same design as the Hugo Boss one. Dark blue, black and pin stripe colours. Fit well but not to the same quality as the Hugo Boss one as I wasn't at the fitting of the suits. I sent my suit off to be copied. The materials they used don't stretch in the right places like the Hugo Boss one.

Finding a good suit that fits is a lot of hassle at times!

I wonder what I expected you to say :)

Anyhow, any ideas on how many suits someone who wears suits everyday actually needs?

I was kidding. I would not be caught dead in a suit, but occasionally one must wear one, like for an important meeting, or a funeral. ;)

I have 4 suits. Black, Navy, Olive, and Mauve, as well as one camel hair sport coat.

Yeah, I figured...Still, I'm intrigued by Olive and Mauve. Are they light so you can see the color or dark enough that you can't tell them apart from black indoors? Do you feel you "pull it off" when wearing them to formal events?

The olive is petty light, as is the mauve, but the it's almost tannish. They can be distinguished from black indoors. The olive suit is a
Nino Cerruti, and it's double breasted, so I can definitely "pull it off" in that one. :)

i've got 6 suits (5 different colors and i guess 3 different styles)

charcoal 3-button jacket, flat front pants
charcoal 2-button, flat front
navy 3-button, flat front
black 3-button, flat front
dark green 2-button, pleated
tan 2-button, pleated

i'm not big into suits (all of them were $300 or less) but they're for work

Ah, I think I know what the olive will look like...I'm getting a beige myself. I'm contemplating adding a white...conservative ivory though...not like the rap singers wear
