I was bored so I came up with the following question:

If you have a one fourth square foot square comprised of one inch squares.....

How many squares do you have?

I assume the answer you're looking for is 36, but you have worded it rather ambiguously.

Not really.

1/4 sq. ft.
.25 sq. ft.

1 sq. ft. = 144 sq. inches

144 / 4 = 36 sq. inches

4 rows of 9 inch-wide/long squares ;)

Take a square 12 inches by 12 inches, and cut it into 4 pieces (half and half again into 4 squares). You will now have 4 squares that are each 6 inches a side. Since you are asking how many 1x1 squares make up one of these 6x6 squares, it's really quite simple after that...

No, you have more than 36.
You have 36 1-inch squares
you also 25 2-inch squares
16 3-inch squares
9 4-inch squares
4 5-inch squares
and 1 6-inch square

For a total of 91 squares.

Tadahhhhhhhh, *I* win
