It WAS my primary source of mp3's for quite some time. I've since deleted all my songs and started a new collection from scratch of just stuff I actually listen to.

You know i used audiogalaxy for a while. I've used direct connect for quite some time now but never used it for mp3s. well you know what i discovered lately, go into a music/mp3 hub in direct connect and it is heaven.

Direct Connect is now the ONLY file sharing program i use, period.

ill try that, the thing i liked about ag was the web pages listed the popularity of songs, and the amount of availablity and the linked artists pages.

AG was kick ass. I probably got about 500, my friend on 56k used to use the satellite like a server, he would download from his machine to mine and bring over a cdr every now and again and fill it up. He probably d/led somewhere around 2,000 on my comp.

i read about this guy in an audiophile mag who was an audio phile with a 1500usd+ system laying idle after he got broadband, then MP3, then a number of new harddisks. RIAA reconed AG did billions of files. well: at 500 tracks which with 12 per mix/ album is probably about right x 20m users = 10billion metric tracks, and 7Mb per track = (i think) 67Peta bytes (- fukk!)

Direct Connect

It's pretty cool. The only catch is that you have to share a lot of files (read: +20gig) to get into any good hubs. You pick a "hub" to join..it's like a server. Um..i'm eating now and on the phone, but i'll add more info when i'm done.

Yeah the only catch with direct connect is you usually need to share 20+ gigs with 3 open slots.

But it is so worth it, it is simply amazing and you can find ANYTHING ten fold. Several of the hubs i join share over 50 TERABYTES.

Yeah..look at as though the cost to download is the cost of a loaded 40G drive...but theres a ton of other goodies there too...like GTA3

Are you in passive mode? are you in a decent hub? do you get search results but not able to download, or no search results?

It's all about the hub.

I have one thing downloading at 3kb a sec, and it took 2 hours to find someone to connect to. Search results come in fine. I have 27gb shared, if thats not enough, I dont know what is.

How would I know a decent hub? I wouldnt mind a pm full of "suggestions"..... please? :D
