I myself am one :D Just got in from riding, got stuck in a 8 foot snow bank :| Flooded the frickin engine and had no extra spark plugs. Sat there on the trail for about 30 min before it would actually start again. Tip of the day, DONT LEAVE HOME WITHOUT EXTRA SPARK PLUGS!

If your a rider, where ya at, maybe we could get a Anandtech snowmobile outing goin on :)

I snowmachine. Sorry I'm from Alaska, if you call it snowmobiling we all look at you strange. Not one person I know actually calls it a snowmobile.

Always have extra plugs on hand, just as necessarily as an extra belt just in case.

Nope only snowboard. Only time I get around enough snow to go snowmobiling, I am there for snowboarding. So I don't ever get to do it.

Looks like fun though.

EDIT: I have been pulled up a slope by a snowmobile while riding my snowboard though. Ski patrol was taking people over to a slope you would otherwise have to hike 7/10 of a mile to. Two ropes behind the snowmobile with loops in it. Grab a loop, get a ride like none other. Lots of fun.

I love to ride snowmobiles. I live in Illinois, though, so I haven't been much around here this winter. Two weeks ago I went to Wyoming to ride, though. It was awesome! We rode through Yellowstone, and had to ride through a herd of bison that were standing in the middle of the road. They were so close that I could have reached out and touched them. That was probably the coolest thing I've ever seen.

Hehe, Snowmachine I like that :)

We went tubing way out in no where land once and my parents pulled us up this huge hill instead of making us walk up it :) Spent probably 2 more hours then we would have if we would've had to walk....I'm gonna try to ski behind one, kinda like water skiing only with no water :D

I've always wanted to go out west...heard they've got some of the best snowmobiling around....We normally go a couple hours north of Macinaw.

My family is/was into it big back in PA. Loads of fun, we always went snowmobiling when I was a kid/teen. But they rarely get enough snow to make it worthwhile anymore.

And the machines have gotten to damn powerful and fast. To fscking idiots out there thinking their nascar drivers. I don't care if they kill themselves, but trailriding has gotten very dangerous in my opinion cuz htere are to many idiots going to fast.

Was in yellowstone snowmobiling two years ago. Very cool!

I snowmobile, when I can get away for the weekend. I go up to either Eagle River, WI or the UP of Michigan. I'm in southern WI, so we don't have any snow right now.

Chrishuff - skiing behind a snowmobile doesn't tend to work too well. Its kind of works, but not nearly as well as you would think. Innertubes behind the snowmobile can be fun, though!

ergeorge: I agree...some guy flew by me at around 80 or 90 today on the trail. however we were the only ones on the trail...my little 340 just cant keep up with the top dogs. on the occasion i get the urge to just fly, but only when its not going to put other people in danger.

EDIT: MogulMonster: I'll keep that in mind :) last time i was on a tube behind one though, i thought my slene split :p

Works better if you grind the edges down. You want edges when you're actually downhill skiing, but they catch to much when trying to do water-skiing type stuff behind a sled.

I went to the UP last winter to ride. We were pretty worried when we got to St. Germaine and there wasn't any snow, but when we got to the place where we were riding they had just gotten 7 or 8 inches. Empty trails, beautiful scenery...it was fun.

Agreed, it seems us Alaskan's are a weird breed. :)

Exactly. There's plenty of places to open it up, but it seems everybody has these 800 or 900cc monsters with a foot of travel at both ends that have be going 90+ all the time.

When I was in Yellowstone 2 years ago, I damn near got hit by one of these idiots on a narrow rough trail. Luckily he had the decency to take it off the trail & hit a tree instead of me :D We made sure he was OK, then kept going.

When I was boarding behind a snowmobile it was weird. The snowmobile would change speed, causing slack in the line at times and then it would get real taut (sp?) and yank me. Definitely interesting when you end up going up hills this way.

Its probably easier on a board to do it than skis. As we almost always have to ride an edge, its just a matter of leaning in the right direction and we are fine. But your arms get one hell of a workout.

I used to ride a hopped-up skidoo 444 Liquid cool. It was a old but semi rare machine. No snow in Ohio basically so no more fun for me.

ergeorge: cant say i've ever seen a guy hit a tree :p although last year my dad almost did, but luckily he had the good old polaris 1979 cobra, and it being as skinny as it is slid right between the 2 tree's :D

nord1899: ya i know about that slack...its kind of like when your tubing behind a boat and you come around a turn and the line gets slack and then you shoot back again. almost like a whiplash. Somewhat dangerous, but thats what makes it fun ;)

Crashed moms 550 2 weeks ago. ski broke in half and i bent the front bumper. ran right into a wall of dirt. couldnt tell the stupid thing was there  looked like a snow drift, turns out it was quite different.

pyonir: thats a pretty nice sled ya had there.

Was a glancing blow, but still did some significant damage.

Hate when that happens.
I trashed '72 440 scorpion pretty good once. Was flying across a field at night and caught a ski on a rock that looked just like another snow drift. Was probably doing about 50 when we started doing the sky-ground-sky-ground thing. Was very glad for the helmet, just wishing I was wearing some body armor.
