How many sit-ups/ crunches can you do?

I don't really do sit-ups or crunches, but I know I can do a lot since I use the lowest setting on me Torso Track. I never believed that thing could work.

Now if only my love handles could get the same treatment.

Depends on if they're elevated, on a ball, if I've done any abwork beforehand, etc. My abs are super weak but I've really been working on them lately.

I usually do about 20 crunches per set, for three sets, on a declined bench, with whatever weight it takes to make that last five reps painful. Right now I hold a 65lbs DB with it centered just a little higher than my collarbone (it is resting against my torso at high as possible while allowing me to make continous contact between it and my chin to help steady it).

I dont know how many unweighted crunches I could do on a level surface. I'm going to go out on a limb and say "more than 20" 😉.

Crunches or sit-ups?

EDIT: I've found you can get a better workout with equal weight if you use a DB instead of a plate, as the center of mass on the DB can be placed higher than you can achieve with a plate (unless you have the plate extending above your face).

situps. i'm old-school & don't subscribe to the crunch religion.

Reverse crunches are much more effective especially if you add twists. You should be doing regular and reverse crucnhes as they work different parts of your abdominals.

Eh, I feel a much more intense burn after a set of equally weighted crunches vs sit-ups. Whatever works for the individual, though. My workout partner, for example, does situps. Logically, though, since your abs contract to bring your sternum towards your pelvis, crunches should be a better exercise.

Also, re-read the post that you had quoted, as I edited it.

I can easily do 120+ in a minute, but if you want some real abs, do them slow and squeeze your abs at the top

I can barely do 40 situps in two minutes. Even when I was thin, I still couldn't do many. I can manage 100-140 pushups without resting with much less effort.
