It isn't opening on a holiday weekend so it probably won't break the opening weekend record.

I don't think it'll break that many records. It'll probably be #1 the first couple of weeks (or maybe more), but don't expect it to break most of the records you mentioned

Because its spiderman. Everyone loves it and most kids watched it growing up.

It's not going to break any of the records you listed. I would imagine it'll be #1 for a few weeks until Fast and Furious 2 comes out. Nothing big comes out between the two.

ditto

i think the matrix will definitely beat the record for number of threads spawned about a movie :)

Ticket prices are rising. Therefore, it is continually easier to top past numbers that were based on lower ticket prices. A more accurate measure would be revenue / ticket price = paying customers. That way you know how many people payed to see a movie, regardless of ticket price of the time. For instance, for a ticket price of $3 12 years ago, twice as many people had to see a movie for it to rake in revenues at today's prices of $6 (yes I know that is low, this is just an example).

It doesn't seem rising ticket costs are taken into account in those numbers, which is nonsensical of you really want to know how popular a movie is.

Ticket prices, as well as opening weekend theatre counts.

That being said, I expect Matrix Reloaded (and Revolutions) to be wildly popular and crush Hannibal's $58M R-rating opening.
