OMFG, look at all the people that don't like raw oysters. It's one of my absolute favorite food. WTF? I can eat at least a half dozen, probably closer to a dozen... but i always have wine or beer with my oysters, so it's hard to say.

What didn't help were the parasitic crabs (about 1/2 an inch wide) that live inside some oysters, as well as the rare oysters that still move after you've shucked it.
BC as in British Columbia? They had those at Blue Water Grill when I went. I didn't try them though. I'll have to try them next time I get a chance.

a quite a bit over 100 raw oysters on half shell. i was counting up to 100, and then i lost count. it was at a seafood restaurant at the top of Harrah's Lake Tahoe, on a Friday night. everything including suite was comped (thanks to my sis) so i ate whatever i wanted. i went there hungry, and all i ate was over 100 raw oysters, a small piece of shark steak, and bottle and a half of wine, along with a shot of Remy Martin Louis XIII cognac (mmmmm). it pays to win big on blackjack.

Um these must be the really small oysters right? I really can't see anybody eating 100 regular size oysters.

Are oysters smaller in the gulf or something? I regularly eat Blau's oysters here (Seattle), but I can't see anyone eating 42.5 dozen (or even a hundred). These things are monsters. Damned good, too. I top out at around a dozen, max. :D

I enjoy Oysters too. My favorite place in NYC is Blue Ribbon in Brooklyn. I believe they also have a location in Manhattan. Their Oyseters are fresh and ICE cold and they give about 10-12 different sauces. It's pretty expensive though.

I remember an article about a year ago in the Dining In/Out section of the NYT, which explained the various types of oysters. It basically said that there are only really three different types you can get in the States and that most of these fancy restaurants attach exotic names to their Oyster menu in order to set higher prices. It was a pretty informative article. Perhaps it's still online.

WTF would come over a person to want to eat a slimey little thing out of a shell? Hell, eating cooked beef and chicken flesh is bad enough, but RAW oysters? NASTY!

btw: I'm currently on a low carb diet, so don't mistake my disgust for lack of eating meat. I eat more beef, chicken and fish than your average human every day. :)

Gulf oysters are generally bigger than any oysters I've seen anywhere else. If the ones you're eating are anything like the ones I got at BWG (I said Oregon, but now that I think about it, I think they were from Washington), they're almost 2x the size of the ones I had. Of course, I'm certain they're larger near you than ones shipped to NYC, but I'm still pretty sure Gulf oysters are among the largest.

That said, I don't know how anyone can eat 42.5 dozen oysters...I guess it's like those people who eat the 5lb steaks.

Damn, 42 dozen, that's a lot of oysters.

I personally like oysters flourentine.

During the summer 2 years ago, I'd pick my gf up from work in the French Quarter every Friday after I got off of work. I'd walk in off the sweltering street into Acme and sit down at the oyster bar to eat a dozen or so and wash em down with an ICE COLD Dixie. NOTHING beats that on a hot summer day. :)

i wouldn't say they were small. let's put it this way, i used to have a very healthy appetite back then, and i was so full after eating these, i didn't eat anything else but a very small piece of shark steak. good thing i ate raw oysters regularly, otherwise i would have gotten sick. (i felt fine after eating over 100)

My friend's family owns Acme Oyster House in New Orleans, and sometimes we'll go there just to see how many oysters we can slurp down (on the house, of course;)). The record holder in their contest at 42.5 DOZEN oysters! :Q

The most I could ever do was about 5 dozen, my friend can do about 7 dozen. I think the problem is I need some crackers every now and then, and they start to fill me up. Plus I slather those suckers in cocktail sauce which could also be filling me up.

I miss New Orleans, oysters up here in New York suck. They're too bitter (not to mention ridiculously expensive).

LOL I love that place! I ate four dozen on the half shell there the day after fat Tuesday 2k. What's the name of that place across the street?...great crawfish and gumbo.

Never had raw oysters before, but I guess I don't really go to any seafood restraunts. From what I have had, they're good :)

Wait, werk, you're in New York now too? That's kind of odd... I was down in New Orleans for the school year and then came home to New York...
Yeah, I got a job in NYC. I've been up here for about 5 months.

Ah, I'm farther upstate near Albany, maybe 3 hours away. Has the weather drove you crazy yet? I was freezing my butt off when I got back.

Yeah, British Columbia oysters from the Pacific Ocean.

I prefer the smaller east coast Oysters though.

BTW, for the other people who are grossed out by raw oysters. Don't forget, they are not only raw when you eat them, but they are also ALIVE.
