What do you define as a set? Like a couple seconds inbetween pushups (5 or 6) and I can do 200+ but if I do them faster and w/o rest then I can do only about 60 before resting.

What the hell is that supposed to mean? The military pushup IS well known to be the correct pushup. Full arm extension on the top, and elbows bending past 90 degrees going down. Anyways I can do a tad over 40 without breaking pace. Not sure how exactly you are defining a set, but I can do about 60 without getting up.

Going to the gym and doing regular weightlifting has improved my numbers greatly, even though I am in the military.

Yeah.. right... And seriously, some of people reporting big numbers+, you sure you don't stand on your knees while doing it? :p I just did 26, chest touching ground (back lower than the elbows on the way down), back straight, nonstop pushups. Of course a person in a really good shape should be able to do 30-50.

Just a month ago, I could only do about 20 in a set.

Edit: One push-up is one standard push-up (Nose to ground, then all the way back up). Hands at should width, straight/flat back, no knees, and full movement. No pumping like they do in the military.

How do we "pump" in the military?

A proper pushup is a round trip from locked-out arms to a 90° bend in the elbow and back to locked-out arms.

I think that IS the proper way. By pump he probably means short little pushups really fast with 1 inch travel down and 1 inch up. (Yeah i'm talking to you liars who can do 100+ pushups :p )

As the military is one of the few places that actually measures pushups for official record, I'm quite sure that we're the last place where people wouldn't know what a proper one is.

I'm not in military, but I agree :)

Plus the guys that typically will say "I don't know, probably about 50 or so".

I just came off injury (3 months of rehab and 9 months inactivity), but prior to that I could do close to 100 in good form on a good day and about 50-75 anytime else. I didn't really train for endurance though...I would work out with 100-110lb DB's for bench press though.

Actually, people in the military do just pump ... in order to quickly go through punishments.

What the...if I were punishing someone by making them do pushups (I don't as it's not my place) and saw that they were using incorrect form, I would punish them further by making them do correct pushups.

Which branch of the military have you been serving with that allows this "pumping?"

I did 42 in a set on a warm-up before swimming 6 months ago.
I don't weightlift, that's kinda unnecessary.

Ppl who think they do 100+...yea LOL

When I was doing pushups seriously, I once made it to 74. I could do more if I did them incorrectly. Now, I can probably do 50 max.

And, for the last 2 or 3 guys, he had one of the girls from the second floor sitting on his back.

That's pretty funny. Someone should have written an article about this with pictures.

Woah. How many people were on this floor?

High 30's.

I dunno; I don't have a problem believing that people can do over 100. I'd be lucky to be able to do 20 or 30 right now. But, many of the guys I've met who have been in the martial arts (with a tough teacher, not a Mr. Miyagi) would laugh at the thought of only being able to do 100.

I couldn't even begin to estimate how many knuckle push-ups I did over the course of a few years.

I can rep 50 easy. I don't know about max, but I'm guessing 70ish. I can press a handstand and planche as well.

About 25-30. I have mild tendonitis in the right wrist, so it starts to hurt pretty bad once I get to around this amount.
