How many projects?

Ok, so I read the FAQs and didn't see this question...so I will ask it now. How many DC projects is it feasible to run on one computer at a time? Presently I am running Chessbrain (my major interest being chess) and Genome@Home (although it doesn't seem to be counting my stats :confused Is there room to run more. Should I not try to run two, since, according to the FAQs, G@H wants all of my CPU time...

Hi Bob,

I currently run 3: Distributed Folding and Folding@Home both run as services with idle priority and ChessBrain also as a service at below normal priority. This means that when ChessBrain is active it will use 100%. And F@H has CPU use set to 50% in order to play nice with DF. I would imagine that G@H would also allow you to set the CPU usage in order to run another project, although if you are running CB you don't need to change it -- just give CB higher priority.

There are some "pairs" of DC projects that run peacefully together but I personally think dividing one computer up into many different projects is really gilding the lily ... at this time.

Seti At Home is on the verge of launching a new platform that will be available to other Distributed Computing Projects to use. They are calling it BOINC.

It will create a situation where you load only one "screen saver" and just pick different projects that you would like to donate your computer's spare CPU cycles. I'd wait for that to become available and just run one (no more than two) projects on any one computer right now.
