How many pizza delivery drivers are on ATOT??

I take the occasional deliveries, although I prefer to forgo the tips and just stay in the shop.
(primary job: math/physics teacher, pizza is a weekend thing)

Am I the only one who works at a restaurant with a company car for deliveries, and the store pays for gas/repairs/etc.? I never use my own vehicle... well, almost never. There are occasional huge orders that my SUV is more suited for.

No, never spit or did anything gross to anyone's food. Well, except for practical jokes among coworkers...

And, no tickets... one of the full time officers in our city also works with me

I've never received a moving violation while delivering.

Well, I did have a 75 in a 45 on the "end-zone" of an interstate highway from a "traffic" cop, not a cool city cop who has better things to worry about. However, that was dismissed 100% free and clear in court because apparently, the prosecutor had better cases to worry about than the cop who ticketed me.

I received a ticket for "improper lighting" because I had made a really awesome Halloween display in the back of station wagon. That was dismissed by a hearing officer the next morning.

I've also received one parking ticket. I kept meaning to go in and have it taken care of, but the due date was coming up, so I just mailed in the $30 check. I narrowly avoided another one because I returned to my car while the officer was writing it. He saw that I was delivering, so he let me go.

I had my car towed once during my second month as a delivery driver, but that's because my license had been suspended due to an unpaid ticket. I was unaware because they didn't send notice to my new address (yes, I did change my DL address when I moved, but the change-of-address department doesn't seem to communicate with the reminder-of-overdue-parking-ticket department.) I got in my other car the next morning, drove to the place to pay the fine and reinstate my license, and then went and got the first car out of impound.

Man, I thing someone needs to lay off the crack pipe alittle there, 62 deliveries? I deliver in a small area and our delivery times average 18min, if you could deliver a pizza every 10mins(not possible) and stay busy your entire shift(not possible) you would be working what, a 10 hour shift?

All pizza places are the same, you only have a total of 2-4 hours of rush each, during lunch and dinner. Best I avg. is around 30 deliveries@ $80-100, and that's a 8 hour Sunday day shift during the football season.

Not all pizza places are the same... at my store its rush non stop, there are always runs to take, there are always phones ringing... I have taken 45 runs in a 7 hour shift, I have taken 58 runs in a 10 hour shift...

Also, what are your average delivery times for your chains?

At my store, Papa Johns, we always quote 30-45 minutes, but on busy nights it gets bumped up ot an hour, and if we are short drivers, delivery times are to an hour and 15 minutes :Q (keep in mind, though, that our delivery area is, again, 40x30 miles) I hardly ever take deliveries that are that old, I don't think I've made it to any of my customers houses in any time longer than an hour in about a year, but a lot of the n00bs get there late.

My place really depends... if we are on top of things and things are running steady I get alot of orders out in <20 minutes... we tell them 30 minutes but you kinda have to because we never know when we'll get 10 orders in five minutes... we also have to call a lot of the custs before we deliver cause we dont go inside dorm halls.

During the OSU game I was taking orders that were well over an hour old though....

We usually have the oders made an out the door within 20 minutes, but what takes up all of out time is actually driving to the customers house. It seriously takes forever :frown:

I deliver for papa johns, love the job... My managers are easy to get along with, especially since 80% of the night I'm in my car so they can't bug me. The in-store work is easy, closing the store down takes about 15-20 minutes with 3 people (compared to an hour or so at any other restaurant I've worked at), and the money is really good all things considered.

The most I've made in one night was around $180 in tips for 8 hours work + about $38 salary after taxes. Thats around $27.50 an hour delivering pizzas. Pretty good, methinks! Our store is about 10 minutes away from Lebanon Valley College, which helps a lot. Its not uncommon for the college to call us when they're having some big student function and need a lot of food, and they tip really well (like, if they order $175 worth of pizzas they'll usually just give $200 and say keep it).

Oh, and then theres the perks of the free food. I usually close, so I can make pretty much whatever I want before I leave and nobody says anything, so its less money I have to spend on groceries at the end of the week. If you want to try something really good from papa johns sometime, get their cheese sticks but tell them to throw some bacon on them

I'd reccomend it as a job to anyone, but be careful cause the easy money will suck you in, and sometimes the money isn't very steady....

Nice having one of those eh? I keep mine in the trunk of my car and throw it on top any time i'm in a hurry.

Just the other night I got pulled over for:

• leaving the parking lot without stopping before going on the road
  doing 45 in a residential area (25mph)
  failure to use turn signals
  rolling through a stop sign

The officer was very quick about the whole thing, he actually jogged back up to my car after checking my info out. He told me "I know you have to get these things delivered while they're hot, so I'm not going to waste anymore of your time, but please slow down and drive a little safer"

Bonus: I didn't have my seatbelt on.

Disclaimer: Now, of course theres times and places for this kind of driving, it was 1:30am and the residential neighborhood was more like suburbs with very little traffic and the houses all set back about 30ft from the road because of their front lawns and stuff. I'm sure if I drove like that in the city I would have got ticketed, but I don't drive through the city if I can avoid it (any route without traffic lights is almost always faster) and when I do I don't do 45mph. 35mph, yeah, but 45mph is too fast when someone could step off a sidewalk right in front of my car.

I wish I could close my store in those kinds of times. OUr store is HUGE - it's about 3 times as large as the normal Papa John's Store - we have a lobby with 6 tables and we provide cups and plates to our customers (totally out of the norm for most PPJ chains). it also doens't help that our reginal manager's office is located at the store, so we really can't slack off at all. I usually end up closing by myself, and it take me about an hour and a half for clean and stock the whole store.

How could you even THINK that all pizza places are the same?

If I know most of the best routes (usually based on traffic light timing, once you master the traffic lights within their various "zones," it's easy to get around most of my area quite quickly) and I take 3-4 deliveries almost every time I leave the store, you're damn right I can average a delivery every ten minutes. That even includes lots of hotel and high-rise apartments/condos.

On a busy night, there are always deliveries to take. On an average night, there are only about 2-3 hours (between dinner and party-time) where we're waiting around for anything. We're open until 2:30 or 3:30, so we have lunch, dinner, and party/bar rush.

i saw some woman really late at night delivering some crap at like 4am once, in a rental car, pulling into EVERY driveway on the street, and throwing the paper onto the porch, putting the car in reverse, backing out, throwing it into drive, and doing that all teh way down the street! god knows how many streets she had done like that.. :Q

I work for a locally owned non-chain store. In a city of 12-14,000, we sell enough pizza on a good night to feed 1500 of those people. That doesn't count wings and subs. Plus, there are dozens of other places that sell pizza, so I'd say we're pretty popular. 80% or more of our business is walk-in/pick up. We have a decent sized dining area. (64 person capacity).

One big reason is that the employees are treated very well... great pay compared to probably any fast food type of place. That results in retaining employees for a long time (a lot of us do it as a 2nd job). As a fringe benefit, the owner bought a company car to use for deliveries. (Camry - used, but excellent condition) The only catch is that you have to be 25 to deliver in the company car - insurance reasons. (it's expensive to insure a car for deliveries)

Plus, free food for employees - anything you want while working... Great comraderie among us... (unless you don't pull your weight when it's really busy - then, we make you so miserable that you quit.) Plus, other benefits... I'm the only one who can do major repairs on the equipment, other than the service people. To get the service people to drive to our place from Buffalo, it costs over $100 just for them to walk into the door. I've chatted with them (while picking up parts in Buffalo) and they think it's hilarious that quite a few places don't mind paying a fortune for simple (to me and them) things like changing a switch. I get paid fairly well for this maintenance

Did it for 2 years for Little Caesars.
Most I ever made in tips was probably about $60 in a 4 hour shift.

20 bucks an hour for driving. cant beat that.
