How many people here have had cavities filled without anesthetic?

I am just wondering because I had a second experience when dental professionals were just floored that I have never received anesthetic of any sort for my eight fillings (all when I was under 12). I am about to have my wisdom teeth yanked, and I had to tell the dentist that I had never had anesthesia of any sort (never had any surgeries before). The guy who was filling out some preliminary paperwork just couldn't believe that my teeth had been drilled without gas or anything like that.

Anyone else out there have an apparently hardcore dentist growing up?

I was never given anything when I got my fillings.

it just gives tingly sensation then if the Doctor doesn't give it a lil break it starts to hurt a lil.

my first dentist did it little by little so it was painless
2nd dentist tried to go like all at once..... ( that sob ) so the pain was a lil there.

it's all about the gas...I think they've used local anasthetics on mine, but I really couldn't tell because of the gas...ahh yes..the gas..

I never use it. I think the injection is more painful than having the dentist drill a cavity

Can't say I have, but then I always demand gas as well.

Here what they do/have done typically for me.
1. Gas
2. they put a lydocaine topical painkiller on the area to be injected
3. Inject

I feel nothing and generally other than holding my mouth open it's makes the experiance bearable.

One guy here pulled his tooth out on his own with a pair of pliers. Search the archives.

I feel your pain. I get my wisdom teeth out weds morning. Getting bother sedated and then long acting novicane. But all 4 are bony impacted, so they have towork pretty hard to get them out.

Not looking forward to it... totally scared of being "put to sleep" more then anything. I have had other surgeries before (hand and foot) but this terrorfies me.

Dear God, I had 5 filled with no anesthetic! I will NEVER do that again. They were rather deep too.

May 7th is my date with doom (4 impacted wisdom teeth). The doctor said that mine is going to be a more difficult surgery than normal so I'm just giddy with anticipation. :frown:

Good luck on Wednesday!

I had a root canal without anasthetic. Um yeah, that was a blast!

Sort of puts pain in perspective for you though.

I've had air abrasion done 2x for cavities, but these are just minor and do not require drilling or anything like that. Can't feel a thing, no anesthetic.

That's what 100mg Valiums are for. Take one pill one hour prior to dental work and you won't CARE what he's doing. Ahh, high-quality pharmaceuticals!
