It was a stupid maneuver from the start, with the outcome still up in the air.

Very much a stupid maneuver. If Trump didn't get the message Congress just sent him today, they'll give it to him much sooner the next time around, I figure. McConnell used a voice vote in the Senate (I didn't hear any nays) & it was unanimous consent in the HOR.

Trump got beat. McConnell knew he'd get beat from the get-go & probably told him as much.

I'd like to think that the nation's voters who gave the House back to the Dems thus giving Pelosi her gavel back should also get a "nice job, very well done" thank you of whom all stood firm and united with our Dem legislators in this latest bout of dealing with Mr. MAGA's constant stubborn hissy fits.

I totally agree with you!
It is too bad that times have changed and I am afraid you will only see meaningful legislation when either both parties are directly affected or when a party has the majority in the house and Senate!

Meh, if any butthurt people here believe in alternate universe/multiverse theory, then I'm sure there's an earth where Ted Cruz won the nomination AND defeated Hillary Clinton, then pwned all the libtards with Fiorina, McConnell and Ryan all in lock step with his agenda. So don't feel too bad.

A lot of people are saying he "caved", but it was less a surrender and more a ceasefire. The bill is only for three weeks, after which he can hold the government hostage all over again. And don't think he wouldn't, as after the rebukes from the conservative media, you can be sure he'll be even more adamant about not compromising in round 2.

I hate to say it, but I feel the same way. It's like our government is run on a playground.

I'm amazed that Trump was capable of even this level of compromise (and let's see if really follows through here...) Given the vitriol that's coming from the talking heads.

Guess the Superbowl/airtravel isn't canceled in America.

For whatever points anyone scored here in political football, I'm just glad anyone who hasn't been paid in the last month will see paychecks again at least until 2/15.

Unfortunately there is a near certainty that we're going to end up in the same situation in three weeks. If Dems have to wheel and deal on the wall, they better get some hefty concessions out of Trump...

Ironically it's the same bill that he agreed to already before changing his mind a few weeks ago.

It was obvious he was going to cave when he recalled the furloughed workers and tried to pretend it was business as usual. That was never going to last.
Successful hostage takers don't care about keeping their hostages comfortable and unscathed.

yes. He got shit on by the Derposhpere in his Twitter feed, or whatever you call it, as soon as he announced his surrender this afternoon. That is not in dispute...and it's the very same derposhpere that triggered Trump's incomparable ego that lead to this shutdown. ...very weird stuff that somehow writes itself, because it really couldn't be true otherwise...in the land where adults rule, anyway.

And so that is where we are now. A child has conceded to adults, and it is now national conversation. Fucking amazing. I honestly doubt that even the country-hating conservatives would continue to vote to shut down the gov 3 weeks from now when the wall will still obviously not be built. ...but it is Trump. The plan is to ride out this concession for about 3 days, then start attacking. His base will forget this week, and everything before it, by 3 weeks. It is certain.

Trump can't take the political fallout as the shutdown's effects become more and more pronounced over time. A strong majority was blaming him for the shutdown because, among other things, the fool accepted total responsibility for it before he started trying to blame the dems. In any event, his poll numbers are diving. He's going to get some additional border security with no wall and try to spin it as just as good as a wall. That's why they're saying he caved even though technically he hasn't.

I "kinda" feel sorry for how stupid he is ... You know, like a slow kid in second grade... Except, it's a rich turd in a 75 year old body that doesn't get his way, no matter how many people tell him he's doing it wrong...he's still gonna go with his "gut feelings"... If trump keeps following thru with his wall dream... and make it a "national emergency" just to fail again after not listening to anyone.... Even his cult base will start to drop him. I thought bush jr was stupid but wow! This guy is having a temper tantrum and he won't give up or let it go. I think the fun is just beginning. We'll see where he takes it next... and... more interesting to see how many of the wallnutz follow him down the same path.
