No one else noticed this, or was it intentional? My bad if it was.

I don't really build my own computers...

instead, I only assemble compatible computer parts to put my system together ;)

of course.

I like knowing exactly what is inside of my box so that I know what to expect in terms of performance and can easily repair/upgrade as needed.

I recomend dells all the time for non-technical people, though, especially if it's a brand new box (ie: they need a monitor/printer/accessories). my laptop is a dell :)

So you assemble compatible parts to make a house, too? It's not a computer until the "raw materials" (which are actually previously finished products) are assembled, just like it's not a house until the "raw materials" (which are actually previously finished products) are assembled.

I have both; I build some of my own systems, I buy some of them from OEMs, and all my laptops are all from OEMs.

i think the vast majority build their own, and buy a dell or so on the side if the price is right.

I built most of mine...but...

there is NO beating dell in price. the cost of a legit copy of winXP alone makes any custom computer more expensive than a dell

hahahaha I've got PM's that prove the contrary ;)

As for me, I build my own desktops... buy laptops. I've acquired brand-name PCs, but I've never outright bought a desktop PC from Dell or someplace.... :D

Like a lot of people here, I build my own boxes but I recommend Dell when others ask me for PC recomendations just so I don't get sucked into fixing other people's PCs.

Also, I've never been able to accomplish a silent custom PC. Back in college, we had a room with 15 Dells that was dead silent. We had another room with about 15 customs that was noisy no matter how much extra cash we spent on getting quieter fans and power supplies.

fifteen customs  i don't believe that

But 15 Dells doesn't sound weird? They were graduate student statistics labs, not my bedroom. I built both labs.

I bought a Quantex in 1998. Everything since then has been assembled by me.

I call BS. On average you can match or beat their normal prices, but when Dell runs specials (which is usually at least once a month), it is impossible to beat those prices.
