I haven't had a prebuilt desktop PC since 1993. Every desktop PC I've had since I've built. I was building PCs for my family and friends too but got tired of being the tech support or them blaming me for when the computer fails and just started recommending Dell.

Build my own "good/gaming" PC's but for a cheap decent server I just bought a Dell SC420 for $300.

I built my desktop but my laptop is from dell. When you can build your own laptop I will definitely do so.

I built my own for many years...lately I've gotten lazy and decided I couldn't beat a Dell so I got one. No complaints at all.

Built our desktops, but bought our laptops. It's cheaper to buy pre-built computers.

I buy Dell laptops, but I build desktops for myself and family. I recommend Dell desktops to friends. My desktops always outperform comparably Dells, but they are more expensive too.

An combination of both building them and buying them. Just depends on what the hot deal is at Dell;)

If I bought another computer outright (more than 4 years ago :-/), I'd go for a Dell and upgrade certain parts (like memory, DVDRW, bigger HD). It's just cheaper to get a budget Dell, especially if it comes with an LCD monitor. I figure the mobo and case won't be upgraded much anyway and that's the most proprietary stuff.

Also, I've never been able to accomplish a silent custom PC. Back in college, we had a room with 15 Dells that was dead silent. We had another room with about 15 customs that was noisy no matter how much extra cash we spent on getting quieter fans and power supplies.

I have two desktop computers and a laptop. The desktop computers I built. The laptop is a Toshiba. I did upgrade the hard drive and memory in the laptop myself though.

dell. price is impossible to beat. buy the minimum system and then add upgrades from newegg.

and their lcds have the best price/(performance or size) ratio compared to anything from anywhere. with coupons it can be as low as 50% off msrp.

Build my own, sell my own, buy and resell HP laptops (though I'm always in talks with at least one distributor about unbranded units that I can brand up, but they're too f'ing stubborn to send me a unit to evaluate without making me pay for it (even if I return it to them.)
