How many people here actually build their computers?

With all the talk about buying Dells, I wondered how many of us here actually build thier own computers.
If you can, or regularly do build computers, but bought off-the-shelf for some reason, I suppose that qualifies as a yes.

I do.

The Dell talk is mostly because Dell regularly runs specials where it is impossible to match their price if you tried to build a comparable system. Also, you have the warranty through Dell, free tech support (so you don't have to provide it), and non-pirated software.

I've only bought one prebuilt PC in the last 9 years or so. Then, it was only because I was working 70+ hours a week and had no free time to build one.

It's usually cheaper for me to buy an SC420 than to build my own. I'm not a power user, so performance isn't important to me; the main concern I have is stability and noise.

For those two concerns, you can't beat Dell. Plus, getting an SC420 with a 2.8 GHz processor, 512MB RAM and a SATA HDD for $400 ain't a bad deal.

I think I just build them because I like to piss away 7 or 8 hundred bucks (for upgrades) every 6 months. It makes my e-sticker peck out.

It's not really practical to build a good laptop from parts.

I  my Dell 2001FP monitor ($459 thanks to GottaDeal.com)

Dells make great PCs for non-gaming use and for people you don't want to provide support to. Grandma wants to send email? Get her a Dell.

I've bought Dell laptops for work, and recommended Dells for people looking for cheap non-gaming.

I build my own (have since the 386 days) but I'd consider buying a Dell for a gaming PC if they ever offer AMD.

bought an IBM Aptiva (P133) back in '95 or so... but have had about 3 PCs since then, all built on my own... which really isn't a big deal after you do it once.

I build my own. I like having the available hardware options and for the types of computers I like to build, it works out a little cheaper that way too.

I've built all of my own plus some others. I might consider a Dell if it was dirt cheap and not for me though.
