2 from Anandtech and 1 from PCAbusers. Its nice to meet people from online. And not in any instance of the 3 were the people in person anything what I thought they would be like. :)

Ive met only one person from the for/sale trade category about 2 years ago. Forgot who it was, but he was rude as hell.

I honestly have no clue. I try to do most of my FS/FT deals locally if at all possible, so I've met a lot of ATers and ucd.swap people. Uh, met some ATers at the Davis get-together (flakers!!!!), met a whole bunch playing CS over the summer. It's one of those things I don't count or keep track of.

I've met a few... things go okay... I don't regret meeting people this way sometimes for fun... :)

I haven't ever met with any in person or spoken with any over the phone. Zilch! The thought of it freaks me out. However, never say never. Although, the thought of it freaks me out, you never know. I would accommodate an accidental meeting. ;)

I think two. Both from playing q2ctf a friend of mine ran a server while myself and other ppl I knew played on it.
Met one guy when he was back home in Mass away from school and another guy went to the same school.

Back during the summer of 2000, a girl from Germany IMed me. We talked constantly, and I ended up flying over to visit her twice. The 4 days we spent together before Christmas in 2000 were some of my best ever.

Before you ask, here's a PIC!

Not yet, but you should feel like a schmuck anyway. :p

FatAlbo is... some nerd I met somewhere on campus ;) (he's in my Math 394 class)
I'll come up with a response on Monday.

We need an ATOT UW/Seattle-area bowling night. It's the only time I ever leave Beautiful Sieg Hall (TM).

She just IMed you out of no where? :Q

She's got big eyes. A German thing, I suppose. :p Nice, nonetheless. She looks older than a girl. She looks like a woman. Is she really still a girl?

So you met in 2000. How come you only mention 2000? What happened to 2001 and 2002? Things didn't go right after 2000?

All right, thanks for sharing. I promise not to interrogate you again. Inquisitiveness gets the best of me. Yaaaaaaaaay!

luvly, i dont understand why you don't want to meet people from the net? why are you so paranoid? sure there are horror stories but it's very very rare. you could probably bump into more psychos just going to the bar. as long as you take extra precaution (getting to know the person for an extended period of time, meeting them in a public place or at least with plenty of people such as an ATOT meet) most likely nothing should go wrong.

i've met at least 9 people from the net...i'm sure more but i just can't remember off the top of my head. half of those were from ATOT. i don't regret meeting any of them.

She is indeed a woman, two years older than me. Yes, she did IM me out of the blue, and throughout that summer, we talked for at least 4 hours per day every day! After those few days in December 2000, I've been to Germany twice, but both times she was visiting her parents in an area of the country that I wasn't planning to visit. We still e-mail each other regularly; in fact, I got a Thanksgiving e-mail from her yesterday! She's also a busy young-professional and I huge A-Ha fan. We like each other a lot, but distance prohibits things from going much beyond that. If nothing else, she's one of my best friends.

Wow! That's cool, GTaudiophile. I am glad all is going well between you two and you're still friends regardless. :D Thanks for the explanation.

Weezegirl, yes, I'm paranoid. I'm especially scared of forums. I would be more willing to accept someone I met through a private website instead of through the forums. If things should go wrong, I know that no one would know or care to know. How sure am I that I won't have to run for my life because the person who seeks me is some obssessed person or a stalker? I guess I'm just paranoid. The only person I ever thought about meeting was some guy who lived about 20 minutes away. His family has a website, so I could learn about them. Something like that made me less uncomfortable.

I have met several AT'ers (trades and such, + the portland meet), talked to a few on the phone, & met my g/f via e-mail.

I'm going to DC to spend 5 days with her, this will be the 6th time one of us has flown cross-country to see the other.

I'd say I've had above average luck.

:)
