How many parts have you had to RMA? Am I just unlucky?

In less than 2 years that I have been building computers, I have put 7 boxes together for myself and others.

Here is what has broken on me:

1 Motherboard - Went insane and fried 2 of my power supplies.
5 Power supplies total.
2 Sticks of RAM - Both PC2100. One Crucial, one Samsung.
1 Videocard - Didnt really break but one of RAMsinkis fell off.

Is this an odd number of returns for such a short period of time?

Doesn't seem that bad. I've had some trouble with power supplies...so there's really no worry there. I guess you just have to go with a quality PS. Good luck in the future! :p

Nope, it doesn't seem you are unlucky with 7 boxes.

I've had to RMA the same (Zebra) printer 4 times (they got it right the last time, thankfully - and they were paying for red label shipping both ways after the second time).

for some weird reason i had to rma quite a few parts in the last few months. and none of the years i have been building boxes for myself and my friends.
motherboard went kookoo for cocoa puffs; got the new board and it was bad, then finally got a good working board. i have to give Abit props for the way they handle their RMAs, top notch.
cpu fan bearing gave out, started making a lot of noise.
and this is my third toshiba cable modem, first one got killed by lightning, second one the ethernet port wouldnt work, usb did tho
and finally got my box to work correctly last week, knock on wood.

I had to RMA a geforce4 4600 once but I found out the card wasn't actually broken, the heatsink was not seated properly.

I had to RMA almost that same amount with 1 system! Thats not too bad for 7 systems. The PSU total seems a little high though.

WTF is wrong with the current in the states? I've built a total of 13 systems in my life and never had a defective part unless it was my fault (dropped) I would seriously get the wiring checked out in that 100 year old house of yours.

From the last 4 computers I built I've had to RMA:

1 - Abit KT7A mobo
1 - Mitsumi floppy
1 - 128 meg stick of RAM - Micron, I think
1 - Creative Modem Blaster
1 - APC Back-up 280 - blew after about 6 months

I think that is a lot.

2 crucial ram sticks
2 western digital hard drives
1 epox motherboard
1 antec psu (this was my fault, I was trying to solder some tail-less panaflo's directly on the psu cables )

hmm when something breaks on me, i usually am too lazy to RMA so i just suck up the loss. its not worth it to me when something dumb like a power switch or case fan breaks down on me. I (lucky me) havent had a major part break yet.

Actually, we just had this house built for use new two summers ago, so its not 100 years old.

As for the rest of you, I am very grateful for your help. I guess living in the U.S. just means that you are gonna get broken stuff. (Manufacturers cut too many corners to save money)

What model of Antec power supply should I get for this?
Athlon XP 1900 (I want to overclock it)
Abit KR7A
Geforce4 TI4400
Crucial 256mb PC2100
Hercules Fortissimo II
32x10x40 Samsung CDRW
Lots of case fans! :)

I preferably want a PSU that will not have a thermally controlled fan, as the noise wont bother me so I want it running all the time.
Probably need at least 350w.
Where should I get it, and how much would it be? TIA

Just one... the first AMD board I bought... however I think I just couldn't figure the damn thing out(first time putting a system together), I got frustrated sent it back and ordered a barebones system then. :p

Though I've only done 3 computers from the ground up, I haven't had any RMA's (knocking on wood), even with minor upgrades (motherboard, video cards, etc.) at different times, still none.

2x PSU (Generic 300w & Macron AMD approved 300w))
1x printer (Epson 600)
1x CPU (T-bird 900) .

I have had two power supplys die on me, one hard drive which was replaced without any trouble and one DOA motherboard which I got my money back on. Not two bad for 6 systems built and loads of upgrades.

The only thing I had to RMA was a 15" KDS monitor because the color went out in it. When I called the company and told them about my problem with the monitor. They said they would have a new one sent out and I should get it in about 2 days. Once I get my new monitor just pack up the broken one in the box and ship it back.
