Hourly here

1 30 minute unpaid lunch that some of us just skip so we can go home early

1 break that I think it supposed to be 10 or 15 minutes but 30 minutes tends to be the norm. Sort of depends on the job and who I am working with.

Since I live in Spain, where most people smoke (like I do), there are no set rules about breaks. I am salaried at a multinational company and I am not sure how it would be in countries with less smokers, but here, anytime I want to smoke, I just take a 5-10 minute break. Probably 7-8 times a day. Add lunch to that, which is usually between 1:30-3:00pm, and of course some other breaks where we just go to our snack room and chat, I think I probably spend more than 1 hour not working except lunch. I work from 9am till 7:30pm though.

I work retail. I can't make it to the break room without someone stopping me first. It never fails. I've kind of given up on trying to take breaks.

And some places actually get work done.

I get 2 15 minute breaks but I usually don't take them. Like sometimes during dead times (I answer phones) we'll just be sitting around talking, so I just count that as my break.

If I'm busy and things are going well I tend to totally loose track of time.

Like yesterday I did 10 hours overtime on top of a regular 7.5 hour shift, to do a PC deployment, but time went by so fast and the only break I took was 15-20 minutes to eat the pizza we ordered.

Lucky bastard. The salaried people here are the same. They can show up to work for 10 minutes and go home and not have to take any vacation for that day.

most companies require the salaried to be in office at least 4 hours for a 'day' credit.

most that are really making money are either lucky or 'busy'.

What qualifies as a "break?" What about those of us that don't have 8 full hours of work to do every day? Is web surfing a "break?"

I'm supposed to get a pair of 15 minute breaks and a 1 hour lunch break. I never take the 15's and usually am sitting at my desk for "lunch." Even during lunch people come up to me to ask questions and I work on things. However, on a day when I have no projects to work on and nothing is broken, then the whole day might be a "break" unless I can find something new to learn or try.
