I'm hourly, get paid ~1 hour lunches. The smokers take breaks pretty much whenever they want. At least once a week boss buy's us lunch.

Get your work done, never miss a meeting, and hit your deadlines and you wont have to worry about petty stuff like how many x-minute breaks you get.

1 30min break at my old job per 8 hour shift. Didnt really need much since there was a lot of downtime with us doing nothing.

this. I can take a lunch break as long as I want, as long as I get my 8 hours in (I have to badge out when I go to lunch). "Breaks" are taken when I don't have anyone to support atm.

Most white collar workers don't take "paid breaks" every x amount of hour. Most of us are free to leave during the middle of the day to run errands, appointments, etc, as long as you show up for your meetings, produce results, etc.

None. I am technically salaried and hourly depending on how you look at it. Oh, and I work for the state government and we take 1x 30 *lunch) and 2x 15.

I can come and go as I please but I don't have time to take random breaks. I don't even remember having a lunch where I just sat for an hour and ate. I work 9ish to 5ish, hours depend on clients. Today I'm posting from work but it just an excuse to go to Microcenter.

Here even professionals are hourly. Almost only managers and supervisors are salaried. Even in the IT department only the manager and supervisor are salaried.

Where is that? Best Buy?

Salaried. I don't get any breaks.
7.5 hour work days, however I am at work about 9 hours a day on average.

I don't know. I don't get paid for 1 hour of lunch and I'm there 8.5 hours a day (grr). No one told me when break time is so I just take a 'break' around ten and 3-ish (I take lunch at 1pm). Unofficially, I take breaks every 10-20 minutes of work cause of how retarded/mundane my work is. If I didn't, I'd have jumped out the window long ago (I'm only on the 3rd floor:().

I only take a break when I need one.

Which is normally lunch. Take about 1 hour.

I love what I do at work and time flies. Taking any break outside of lunch would just be a hassal.

Salaried, so really whenever I feel like one as long as it isn't excessive. On the flipside, I do not get overtime/comp time and I typically work 50-60 hours a week.

Overall, it all evens out due to the additional perks that are provided and the flexibility in taking time off.

Salaried here as well.

I'm allowed to set my own work schedule as I please, so long as my stuff is caught up and things are running smoothly. I also technically acquire 2 weeks of vacation a year; however, no one keeps track of my days off. When they were trying to recruit me, I was told my overtime would be paid as comp time (uggh) but the days never expire (they don't count the days - all trust). I now know why they don't want to pay me overtime - the hours!

The flip side is that I'm a systems administrator in the banking industry. If things aren't working correctly, we basically work non-stop until the problem is fixed. I once counted a 36hr day during a conversion process. Two of us are also on-call 24/7 no matter what. I was on the phone with Verizon at 6am this morning working on a MPLS circuit keeping a branch of tellers from working. :frown:

I am salaried with flex scheduling, so I work whenever I want, basically. The freedom is nice, but not getting paid extra when you get paged at 2am, not so nice.

I get two paid fifteen minute breaks and a thirty minute unpaid lunch. People will tattle if you take a longer lunch. I'm salaried, but I have to work 40 hours per week. If I don't, I only get paid for how much I actually worked. If I work more than 40 hours, I only get paid for 40.

It's awesome, actually.

I take maybe a 15-30 minute lunch. It's unpaid and if I'm going to be at work I'm getting my work done so I can get out of there. I'm salaried so the faster I get my work done the faster I get out of there. I'll chat with other people and go to the bathroom whenever I want though.

I'm hourly but work for the govt so its basically do whatever I want. Last week I left the office at 11 and came back at 1:30. My lunch break is typically 1.5 hours.

I get a break roughly every hour or so. My co-workers all smoke, and the owners of the business are pretty old... so they like to take breaks a lot. So I get to also. :p I like them though, they are great people.

That has to be a violation of some law.

Some one brought that up during our "meeting". The boss told him he looked it up & it's within the law and if we don't like it we are welcome to go work somewhere else.

I don't know what the law is actually.

Contact your state's Department of Labor. Not all states require businesses give paid breaks.

Ummm, federal law FTW.
