I was wondering how many operating systems each of you have and how you managed to acquire them. How many of you own them legally, and/or how many did you rip off or copy??

Here is my list.
Dos 6.22............Legal (Kept around from my first PC. AAh, the good old 486 days :D)

Win 3.11............Legal (Same as above.)

Win 95..............Legal (Upgrade from Win 3.11 version. I bought it.)

Win 98SE............Ripped It Off (So Sue Me, I built a new machine and needed a good OS, so I burned a copy from the CD's at work.)

Win NT4.0 WS........Legal (Sample Included with MCSE Training Kit)

Win NT4.0 SVR.......Legal (Sample Included with MCSE Training Kit)

Linux Mandrake 7.1..Legal (Downloaded CD Image file from FTP and burned it, but Linux is freely distributable)

Linux Red Hat 6.2...Legal (See reason above)

This should be interesting to see, considering M$'s OS's are some of the most pirated software programs out there. ;)

JR..

For the folks that have Office2000 Pro, what do you do about registering it, since it only runs 50 times if you don't. Not that I've managed to "acquire" a copy somewhere or anything ;).

Oh wait. I didn't figure that "Special" version of Linux would be considered an OS. More like a system utility. Got that one too!!

I just bought an MSDN Universal subsription and got a legal copy of everything under the MS label :) Got it cheaply off fleabay too ;)

<< have Office2000 Pro, what do you do about registering it, since it only runs 50 times if you don't. >>

try to get a PRE SR1 release of it, don't register and download the updates. If you BUY the SR1 version or d/l a shady version, you must register it. The Pre- SR1 doesn't require you to register even AFTER you install the SR1 patches.

Ah...legally?

Mnn

I spose then that's BeOS5 (you can even put it in its own partition with a boot menu if you know how), QNX & all those magazine CDs with Linux OSes on them.

Now as far as all my Windows CDs are concerned, they were legally purchased in Vietnam for about $2 each, but whether they can be legally used in Oz is a different matter.

Um, I have about 10-15 OS's, which should be legal (some linux distros, free Unix'es, BeOS, CP/M etc. ). Nothing from M$, no intention to buy anything from them (Me? Pay to M$? You've got to be kidding... )
