How many old TV shows that are considered "great" would not make it today?

Andy Griffith....great wholesome funny show....which is exactly why it would not have an audience.

What exactly does wholesome mean? A good portion of people who thought those old shows were wholesome also believed in segregation and inferiority of women.
Go thread crap somewhere else.

I don't think M*A*S*H* would do very well today, nor Married... With Children either. It's to offensive to todays wussified America.

I'm not thread crapping. I'm pointing out that this notion about "wholesomeness" is completely absurd and that if you look at the audience of any given period it should be clear.

I think a show like MASH could do well but what war would it be set in?? Married with Children just wasn't that funny compared to other sitcoms.

I don't think this is really fair to the old shows. Not much of the old stuff would "make it" in today's world. It's like pitting a poor little steamboat against a giant modern ocean liner.

Leave the little steamboats alone!111

I think the point the OP was trying to make is that the networks these days don't give new shows time to find their audience. If it is not immediately a hit they cancel it.

Agreed... it should read: Married With Children was only slightly more funny than Full House, but both of them sucked.

Not a TV show but there is no way in hell that Blazing Saddles would be made today.

I really do miss sitcoms and other shows that simply make me laugh. I'm sick of all the dramas and reality shows. I know some of them have great writers and the stories deserve awards, but I just want to be able to flip through the channels and be able to choose from several different 30-60 min shows that make me laugh without a cliff hanger ending every episode. This is one of the big reasons why Adult swim is one of the only things I watch regularly.

If that show was on today Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would see to it that it was taken off the air and that Carroll O'Connor issued a public apology.

Northern Exposure

Man I loved that show growing up. But that kind of humor, once so novel, has been used to club us over the head recently.

Who's that riding in the sun?
Who's the man with the itchy gun?
Who's the man who kills for fun?
Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad.

He sleeps with a gun
but he loves his son
Killed his wife 'cos she weighed a ton.
Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad.

A little touched or so we're told
Killed his wife 'cos she had a cold
Might as well she was gettin' old
Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad.

He's quick with a gun
And his job ain't done.
Killed his wife by twenty-one,
Psycho Dad!

Who's that riding in the sleigh?
Who's that firing along the way?
Who's roughing up bums on Christmas day?
Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad

Who's the tall, dark stranger there.
The one with the gun and the icy stare.
The one with the scalp of his ex-wife's hair!
Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad!

Who's that riding across the plain?
Who's lost count of the wives he's slain?
Who's the man who's plumb insane?
Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad

He's a durn good pa, but he hates the law.
He's likes to eat it raw, He's Psycho Dad!

I agree. That's why I pretty much just watch Comedy Central and Adult Swim.

Trivia question: What is Al Bundy's favorite radio station??

I forget the name of the station but I think it had Rick Cool, with Oldies for the Middle-Aged.

I could never stand Enterprise before it got cancelled. I'm addicted now that I can save three episodes every monday and watch without commercial interruption.
