how many of you use your plasma for video gaming?

friends came over and we had a rock band marathon (~6 hours) on my 42" panny plasma.
so far, i don't notice any burn in, maybe some image retention.
just wondering if this was bad if we keep doing over and over again.
 
I've gamed for long periods on all my displays - rp-crt, crt, plasma, dlp, LCD. no burn in, no problems, it's a non issue.

It used to be, like 5 years ago. Shamefully this myth is still prevalent on the intarweb.

I also heard that a plasma will explode and burn your house down and eat your children before it does so.
 
Op, I have had 6+ hour gaming sessions on my plasma and never had a problem. I am cautious though and always run full screen non-static HD content (DiscoveryHD or Mojo) for an hour or so after an extended session.
 
I think it's become a non-issue nowadays with the current generation of plasmas. My 50" Hitachi plasma I got a few months ago has some image shift feature that automatically shifts the entire image over a few pixels every 10 mins or so. I'm sure the Panasonic, Samsung, and Pioneer models have a feature similar to this.
 
No current plasma is going to have any problems with extended gaming. It's still generally recommended that you break in each set for a 100 hours or so with full screen (non static) usage. You may get some temporary IR after a long gaming session, but as binister suggested, it can be taken care of easily by running full HD 16:9 content for a little while.

It's not a problem, you won't break it, so use it and have fun with it. Just don't be stupid about it and you should be fine!
 
It's not a myth. Here is a shot of a Pioneer 5080 with the Super Stardust HD hud cooked into it:

That's with the orbiter *on* as well. This might technically be IR as opposed to burn-in, I don't know how it turned out but the image persisted on the guy's screen for over a week and lived through screen wipes.
 
Yep, with the panasonic 50" that I have image burn is clearly seen after playing FFXII for extended periods of time. Its very noticeable on a white screen even after a few hours of viewing a movie which is completely unacceptable. Technically my unit is defective with a loud high pitched sound coming from it on very bright screens, but I fail to see the image retention/image burn changing behavior with a new set.

I think that is Bioshock and there is no way to know whether that is burn-in or IR. I have seen IR on my screen for a couple of minutes but it always goes away after a few minutes of running full HD content.

That image has been around for a while and all of the LCD fanboys use it to discredit PDP technology.

I will borrow a good quality camera and take a picture of the one I have to show you. Mind you its running on 300+ hours now, took the first 150+ hours to loop a moving pictures to break-in. I will even make sure I put my user name on here and the date so no one thinks its a picture I found.

You're right it is Bioshock. SSHD was another problem from the same thread, same set:

The image is from a plasma owner saying "WTF, I though IR/burn-in was a thing of the past."

No one is trying to discredit plasma, it's a good technology. But IR is a real problem, especially if you're doing gaming / PC desktop.

I do not doubt you have IR or even burn-in but if you do your set is in the minority. I have already said that my set has shown minor IR after marathon gaming sessions but it always goes away.

If your set is malfunctioning why don't you get it replaced? It is certainly still under warranty if it is a newer Panny.

Oh and the "plasma buzz" is not uncommon and certainly not an indication of a broken panel. I have the same buzzing with my Pio and can hear it from 12' away.
