just wondering how common it is in the consumer world, as compared to enterprise/server world.

only count your primary pc, not your home server.

personally, i am not due to added cost but would like to.

I've been running RAID0 for at Least 3 years, all SCSI but never had a problem.

I wouldn't consider the AnandTech forums as typical of the "consumer world".

I am, but think I am going to have to quit due to cooling (or lack of) issues. My 5 drive, dual container array (2x36GB RAID 1 + 3x146GB RAID 5) solution generates more heat than I can dissipate in the current case.

I used to use RAID 1 on "important" desktop PCs, but with easy automated image-based backup programs available, it's much easier and cheaper to just make full system backups across the network.

I use a RAID 1 array for all data files. That is then backed up on two external drives, and a second PC.

I've used RAID 0, 1, 5, and 6. Not currently using any. I'm guessing that is "raid other"?

i'd say no raid since you're not currently using it on your primary pc.

Hmmm. I'm not right now, but only because I haven't had the time or money to pull the Areca 1220 from my WHS box and put it on my gaming rig. Else I'd be running RAID 0 and RAID 5 right now.
