Bethesda? Really?

In all fairness, the big problem with Fallout 3 is not DRM but astounding bugginess.

Apparently, the new standard is to save huge sums of money on beta testing games and just release them as-is.

I've not played Fallout 3, but to what I understand the only DRM it uses is a CD-check. It's not the draconian 3-install thing used by others. So, I'd say it's tolerable.

About it being buggy, well, I wouldn't know.

same here.. when will they learn lol.

look at steam. all u do is activate your game throug them. and bam you can play it right off your computer. u can even download the game..

some retail games, such as UT2004, and quake 2. they were nice, play right off the computer.

too bad you couldnt buy other companies games and activate it on steam. so you could hide your discs so they dont get broken or scratched

DRM isn't meant to prevent internet piracy, it's meant to prevent people giving their friends a copy of the game to play, or even selling it when they're done with it.

Having to bittorrent a game AND buy it is not getting your cake and eating it too, it's getting fucked twice in the ass by the publishers.

It's sad.

well, fuck them. it's even easier to dl a copy than to give away a legit copy.

I use several no-cd hacks but they are kind of a pain in the @ss since every time a game is patched you usually have to update it.

I download no CD/DVD cracks for every game that requires a CD or DVD to be in the drive. The only exception to this is BF2 since Punkbuster kicks me for having a no CD/DVD installed :(

I've DL'd copies of WC3 and Baldur's Gate: ToB because my CDs were too badly scratched (overuse :p) to install. I assume this thread is intended to be another "see, this is how much DRM sucks thread" though so I'll also say that I never had to pirate BioShock, Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Spore, or Mass Effect because they all worked perfectly out of the box.

Last game I pirated that I didn't pay for was Rome Total War, which I later bought and am contemplating buying again through Steam.

By constrast, I have ISOs and no disk cracks for about a dozen or so games. I hate switching disks out and I hate dealing with any DRM issues.

Ummm... Seriously, what kind of replies are you expecting anyway? It's not like a pirate is going to come out here in the open and admit they pirated a game. They may as well just go to the RIAA !! (or whatever agency is in charge of these things)

Might as well stop the admissions of piracy, the mods (in the past) have frowned upon that kind of talk. Even in the past tense.

Very soon I will be downloading a pirated version of every game that I own which is SP with DRM I don't like + cd cracks.

And no I don't pirate games I don't own unless they are old and near impossible to find, I still have to get around to playing Baldur's Gate II & Total Annihilation + Spring graphics engine mod, both of which I have the original legit CD's sitting in front of me. Not to mention that most of the games I really want but boycott due to DRM turn out to be crap and not worth the time (spore anyone?).

You know you only need to download the cracks, not the whole game... you'll just be re-downloading what you already have on your retail discs.

I didn't download a WC3:TFT cd, but I cloned an image off a friend's disc.

I got a bit excited when putting in the original disc for the first time and accidentally scratched it...

people on this forum do it frequently, look at this thread.

also, how do you pirate a game you never paid for? isn't that the point of pirating the game?

Hell, I will sample and download music, but still will go out and buy the CD to support the musicians as much as I can.

I have a book-case full of albums and a huge stack of PC games.
The only game I'm pirating (that's right, I'm admitting it) is Rainbow Six Vegas 2 because Ubisoft seriously f-ed me over with part 1 :|
Part 2 is what Part 1 should have at least been.

I agree though, that it is getting harder to see things from the publisher and developer's point of view due to a decline in quality and increase in obtrusive copyright protection measures.

Do you mean to just remove the CD checks? If so I also don't want DRM that is harmful to your computer to touch mine. I know you can disable some DRM after it's installed but for me it'd be much easier to just download a version that never had it to begin with.
