How many of you use a Chamois?

I just used one for the first time, and its leaving a film all over my car. Looks like I get to rewash the damn thing... fantastic. What do you guys use instead of one? Any good alternatives?

That's not the chamois, that's your car telling you it needs wax.

Its a brand new car with 25 miles on it. This was the wash before the first coat of wax. Now I get to get up early tomorrow before the weather turns to shit and rewax it. The frickin water was wringing out of the cloth yellow.

I went and bought some microfiber cloths for drying a car, I'm going to use those tomm.

Best way to get it to look great after a clean is to flood the surface completely so that the water sheets off and then dab dry with a microfibre towel.

Been using a chamois for years, never left a film. What kind are you using? BTW, those micro fibre towels are the shit for buffing wax.

Genuine leather one I just bought. Going to take it back. I got a bunch of towels for waxing the car too.

I just use large microfiber towels. They do a much better job of soaking up water than any chamois(which I believe is the biggest scam of the century).

I have both a chamois and a bunch of microfiber towels from Costco. The chamois needs to be prepped before first use by soaking it in light detergent and cleaning off any dirt or dust. Then you get it good and rinsed, and when you dry, you start with the chamois already wet (or it won't pick up additional water easily).

That said, I have just found the microfiber towels easily to deal with. They are lighter, ring out easier, and are less fussy, plus I can just throw them in the washer with the rest of the detailing pile.

Yea, I just returned my chamois. The microfiber towels I bought worked great.

I've used this product for around 8 years and never had any issues. Sounds like you didn't clean the chamois before you used it your first time.

I have the same item, it's always worked well for me.

chamois is old technology and can cause scratches.

Things like the 'absorber' and other driers are alot better and less likely to scratch.

Following up with microfiber gives you a top notch result.

They know more about car detailing than anyone,

100% cotton terrycloth towels.

Seconded, Tried about everything and like these the best. The ones I have don't have the sewn on border though.

I use this to get rid of the majority of water, then mop up with soft towels.
