How many of you studied or are involved in the arts in some way?

So last night in my improv class, a classmate and I were talking about technology and I was thinking about it on the way home - how many people here AREN'T in the IT industry? Or even broader - a non-science or math related field.

I have a BA in Theatre and am a struggling actor...I just happen to be a techno-nerd in my off time. Which, unfortunately these days, is most of my time.

So what is YOUR degree in? If you don't have one, that's cool - what do yo do?

I...engrave ;).

I do engraving, ADA signs, digital prints, etc. Chances are if you need a sign I can make it or have it made (for complex stuff like LED signs or metal letters).

i have a BA in multimedia, spec in digital animation prod. and also in game design theory. arts degree or not, it still made me learn many different programming langs as well as some scripting. i am also an industrial programmer and the IT guy for our company, as well as set up custom private networks for customers. i also do telemetry for customers as well, spec in PLC comms. id say the arts part was a first step to what i do now, which is mostly not art related (about 1/3 artsy stuffz)

I was an Art Student before I dropped out.
Worked my way up in IT from helpdesk, and am a windows system admin now.
Figured out what I wanted to do with my life and am getting a bachelors in Psych with intentions of grad school.

I don't really like computers that much. :D

I used to chomp down a double quarter pound cheeseburger, 10 nuggets, large fries, large coke and a cheesecake in one sitting.

That's kind of an art.

No college degree, but accumulated 80+ credit hours. Took a Drawing I class and a few semesters of Sculpture, which is how I got in to metal work. I'd love to work with metal again, but don't have the space/tools/resources.

Work in tech support field, but try to find time to draw and paint.

I used to participate in a draw club and would like to do that again. We all pitch in $10 for a model and it's hosted in a (professional) artists' loft, typically.

I have sold some stuff recently in "amateur" type shows the past few months.

My wife paints, too, and has sold quite a bit (though nothing recently).

Nope.

I wanted to get a degree in painting but sucking rich people's dicks for work is not my idea of a great life. I want to be an engineer now.

I was planning on going into music (piano and violin) before I was in an accident. While I didn't make a career out of it, I still play the piano everyday and the violin a few times a week.

My career is software, and I've always advocated that software is more art/craft than science. Admittedly that's at a very limited level in software, and not everyone appreciates or understands the artistic qualities. I also do a lot with winemaking, and to many that is a mixture of art and science.

I have a BS and work as a research scientist for a private contract research organization. However I enjoy art and like to read and/or see various things - hell arguably I like it more than my science stuff.

The Significant Other is wrapping up her PhD in Art History. She is really a historian, but as an undergrad she was an artist and still occasionally paints - so I consider her artsy.

Hey!!! BA in Theater as well! Graduated in 1997, did Shakespeare festival work, then moved to regional theater. Got disillusioned and worked in architecture for a short while and now I'm back in Theater. Working mostly Broadway now, with some national tours, auto shows, etc.

I'm a stage machine designer currently (sloats, lifts, etc.).

Great career really.

I'm studying archaeology and classical civilisations, but I'm trying to get in a graduate program to do with finance or IT.
Currently focusing on trying to get an IT advisory position.

hard for me to vote.

I have a science-related degree and an arts-related one. ...so I voted arts-related, b/c you'd expect a heavy skew there.

There is a lot art in science actually, depending on where you look ;)
