2 comp classes at our school (I'm in neither, but my cisco teacher asked if I wanted to go) went to Jasc Software Company in eden prairie Minnesota, and toured where they developed and shipped out the products...

They demo'd paint shop pro, and Namo (I've heard of them but never used them before), then we all went around the place... It reminded me of office space so much. We saw their server room, got to see some of the developers and stuff... then the kicker... they gave every one of us paint shop pro v6 (it's not their newest, but hey, that's nice of them) plus we got namo 4, also a huge ass book on how to use paint shop pro. Then they ordered like 15 pizza's for us. I was throughly impressed...

:)

Very cool place, and all their staff was really friendly.

I use Photoshop 6, Premiere 6, Dreamweaver 4, and Fireworks 4 on a daily bases at school. All of those programs are on
one computer, my computer. And yes, they're all legal copies from www.edu.com ..

I bought PaintShop Pro 5.0 at home, and then I also made my office buy a copy (I get to make decisions like that at work). I'm still happy with 5.0. I mostly use it as a frontend for flatbed scanning. But occasionally I paste my head on someone else's body like this

I use PSP6 a legal copy. It works great. I had PSP4 long time back.
The software is cheap enough to buy (unlike photoshop), on top it reads all photoshop plugins and all. Its got some rather handy features that photoshop lacks (or I dont know how to use photoshop).. stuff like replacing colors with another color etc etc.

IMHO PSP is equal to Photoshop. Infact my co-worker used photoshop for a while and tried PSP too and found that PSP runs a lot better when he has a huge image to deal with.

Edit: I love the batch conversion, the image browser, the cute utils like counting colors etc etc.

Well I use photoshop too, but it was interesting to see how PSP stacks up to photoshop... obviously it's like heavyweight versus lightweight (haha, same way with the price!)

I just had fun... thought I'd share.

PSP is a great program and Jasc offers a lot for the money. It can do 90% of what Photoshop can do and it's good for doing quick image manipulations...all serious editing is done in Photoshop though. It's also great for organizing/sizing down images, etc. I LOVE the Browse feature...why in god's name doesn't photoshop have this simple yet god-like feature?!?! It's so useful

Paulson,
JASC is a great company! My wife is a PSP fanatic. She won't touch Photoshop as it hogged memory and PSP does everything she needs. While working at Best Buy I called them up to see if they had any employee incentives. I got ahold of a gal named Shirlee. She was a former PNY sales rep and hooked me up with PSP 5 a couple years ago. I've gotten every JASC software for free since then. My wife is a beta tester and is trying to get into their legal department when she goes back to work.

Another program that is really good for the price is PhotoImpact. I got an older version free with a scanner and it's so nice I usually just use it. The interface is great and it handles faster than Paint Shop Pro. There's really nothing I have wanted to do but been unable to with it. The print preview feature is something that not even Photoshop has. But if Photoshop was a little cheaper I would buy it:D

Cool. I use PSP 7.0 myself. Downloaded Photoshop and for my needs it's way too much. For basic image editing and creation, it can't really get any simpler than PSP. The price is right as well. :)

I agree with this. I use Corel's PhotoPaint for all of my professional photo editing but I use PhotoImpact for all the quick and easy stuff because it's full featured but still easy to use and loads up quick.

I'm one of the only people I know that uses Corel's PhotoPaint. I got used to using it and prefer it over Photoshop.

I own it. I find it a lot easier to learn, when compaired to Photoshop. Plus, you get great results! :)

I have been using PSP for so long now that I cant even remember when I started. I like the program a great deal and upgrade whenerver it is available. I think I am stuck with it now since I can use it with my eyes closed now.

I used to use an illegal copy of Photoshop, but ever since I didn't like doing that anymore, I can't afford any of the higher-end programs. I'd love to buy the edu version of photoshop and either Illustrator/Fireworks (Might be Freehand, the vector one is the one i'm looking for).
