I do about 40% of the housework ... though that is going more in my wife's favor recently because she is at home with the baby, I also do laundry, cook, shovel the walks, cut the grass ... pretty much do it all.

I do laundry, cook about twice a week and do the evening dishes more often than not. It has done wonders for our relationship.

There are a lot of people with some nasty ass homes.

My wife and 2 kids all pitch in almost daily to keep our house clean. We all share in the responsibility. We blast old school music and clean.

Haha you beat me to it. I have robot slaves do my housework :D Roombas & a Swiffer WetJet makes quick work of the floors. We have 3 simple rules:

1. Clean up as you go (like when you're cooking)
2. Clean up after yourself
3. If you see a mess, clean it up (even if it's not yours)

You need the structure to do this first though. The old adage "A place for everything, and everything in it's place" applies here. I got tired of having a messy apartment, so I started using "bin" technology - dedicate bins to toss your stuff into. Bins can be laundry baskets, drawers, shelves, whatever. I have a bin for cables, a bin for spare computer parts, a bin for home theater and xbox stuff, etc. Kind of like a junk drawer, but for everything you have. When you're done using something, just clean up after yourself by tossing whatever you were using in the bin it belongs to. The good news is you only have to do this "structuring" once and then follow the 3 rules above plus whatever chores your house demands and you will always have a clean house.

edit: Also you have to have a "Do It Now" attitude. It's really, really hard to overcome the tendency to tell yourself that you'll do it later, but then you end up with a huge stack of dishes and piles of laundry. If you can overcome the big lie and take care of the small stuff now, it never becomes big stuff later.

I do my dishes, laundry, clean the toilet using the brush on occasion. Vacuumed every 2-3 months

Other than that, the place gets cleaned every 5 months when my parents show up :p

And yet, people tell me my place is clean!! (mostly cause i don't have junk lying all over the floors I guess?)

 for music. Cleaning up is as boring as working out, having a radio makes all the difference.

My husband cleans the bathrooms, and the upstairs, as well as vacuum. In exchange I clean the first floor and cook and run all the errands. We both work 40+ hr a week.

Ditto, I work at home most of the week. It's been interesting to see how traditional cleaning is done and what products and tools are used to do the cleaning. I take care of the laundry, cleaning, and weekday cooking, plus the cars. It was a lot of work at first, but once I got everything setup, daily maintenance is a breeze. For example, I got tired of the crummy way laundry was managed, so I made a laundry system.

My goals were as follows:

1. Always have clean clothes
2. Never have to iron anything ever again
3. Never run out of cleaning fluids
4. Have a nice, clean working area with all the tools I needed right at hand
5. Be as efficient as possible so that I can do other things with my time

Then I listed the tools I needed:

Washer
Dryer
Trash can (for lint, paper towels, etc.)
Small liquid laundry detergent bottle (small = easier to handle)
Small liquid fabric softener bottle
Small liquid bleach bottle
Funnel (for transferring large bottled liquids to small bottles for regular use)
Fabric softener ball with plug
Supplies tray (thin tray to prevent drips, bottomed lined with a paper towel; holds small detergent, softener, and bleach bottles plus dryer sheets)
Storage rack (spare detergent, paper towels, etc.)
Table (for folding clothes)
Paper towel holder
Laminated instructions (i.e. how to use the washer and dryer)
Laminated shopping list with dry-erase marker (for when the detergent etc. runs out)
Magnet with repairman contact info (stuck on washer)
Hangers
Kitchen timer (for reminding me to change the laundry so it doesn't sit)
Laundry baskets

And the supplies:

Liquid laundry detergent (large) x 2
Liquid fabric softener (large) x 2
Liquid bleach bottle (large) x 2
Dryer sheets x 2
Trash bags x 2
Paper towels x 6
All-purpose spray cleaner x 2

Then the maintenance tasks:

Clean dryer's lint screen (per use)
Open washer lid to allow water to evaporate (per use)
Clean table (before folding laundry each day, gets dusty)
Clean drip tray (as needed, swap out paper towel on the bottom)
Clean small bottles (as needed, from drips)
Empty trash (as needed)
Clean washer/dryer (weekly, using all-purpose cleaner)
Vacuum laundry area (weekly)
Inspection and vent cleaning (yearly)
Replace hoses (every 5 years)

I really hope to be able to build my own custom-designed home someday...that way I can build all of these neat organization systems into it to make my life easier :)
