Don't have it yet, but I hear its pretty handy if you watch a lot of TV. Would have come in use during the Angels vs. Yankees games.

I got a Tivo and i pay no monthly fees. I got the unit when they did a promo for lifetime subscription for $300 and with that i got a refurbed 40 hr unit. Works great, i don't know what i would do with out it.

No tivo ... just satellite. Don't watch enough to bother investing in Tivo right now, though I might get it for Christmas for my wife ;) You know, one of those gifts that you can both use :p

no monthly subscription FTW!

The Toshiba SD-H400 is awesome.

Free Basic Tivo with no monthly fees :)

How does the no monthly fees bit work?

the SD-400 came with Tivo Basic. It won't let you do most of the better stuff, like setting season passes, etc., just record off the guide menu.

So where does your TV source come from? Or do you still need to pay your cable provider for basic service?

nope, I already pay too much monthly for tv.

I do it the free way with my Hauppauge card + WINTV scheduler (couldn't get GBPVR to work and it's a resource hog).

I own two and gave my fiancee one for Christmas. I've got hers modded up to 100GB and I've got one 80GB and the SD-H400. I'm a little addicted. I just wish that companies would have stopped selling 5400RPM HDs because the 7200RPM drives are too loud.

If you buy a Tivo unit and either don't register it, or let the subscription lapse. What does it do? What units don't support Basic Tivo?
