I did once while pretty buzzed, but the drive was only 100 yards and down a path that has next to no people or cars.

I did once. But only because our DD was from Denmark and bought his drivers liscence off the street in Germany. After the 5 minutes trying to explain what a gear shift was. I decided that we would be safer with me driving. He didnt tell us any of this till after we were drunk >-<

Many times, but I'm not proud of it at all. I've been sober for a year and a half now.

When I was a sophomore in college, I had my one lesson learned and haven't operated a car after having more than 2 beers since.

That was back in 1993. My GF and I had just left a bowling alley and I had probably consumed around 7 beers. I didn't feel trashed by any means but I knew I shouldn't have been driving. Was about 4 miles back to my apartment. Made it back to the service road without any issues. That's when I noticed a state trooper pull out behind me and hit the blue lights. I knew at that moment I was about to go to jail with my first ever DUI. He pulls me over and I'm about to burst into tears at this point. He asks me if I knew how fast I was going and I said I wasn't sure but that I was less than a mile from my apartment. He told me I was going around 45 in a 35 and that I should be more aware of the speed limit considering I lived off that road. He then told me he was just giving me a warning and for us to be more careful.

Wasn't really out of the woods at that point because he followed me back to my apartment complex, where he was aparently friends with the security guy in the little entrance building out front of the complex. But, I made it back to my place without a speeding ticket and without a DUI. Personally, I don't think there's ANY way in hell he couldn't tell I had been drinking. It had to be obvious but I'm convinced that he was just in a damn good mood, knew I was young and about to have my life screwed up with a DUI and he chose to let us to go home since we were so close.

I vowed that night to NEVER have more than 2 beers and get behind the wheel and I've stuck to that self-promise ever since then. Simply not worth it to put your life or someone else's life in danger. And I tend to not even drink two beers before driving unless I'm having dinner or lingering at a home/bar long enough for it to have no impact on my driving.

I'm not proud of it, but I have a few times. I try not to unless there are absolutely no other options.

Nobody on ATOT would ever do such a thing! And anyone that has deserves to go to FPMITA for life. ;)

Many times - in the early Eighties when that wasn't considered the OMG FOUR BEERS THROW HIM IN PRISON WITH THE MURDERERS AND PEDOS offense it is now. Not proud of it, but I never got busted and I never hurt anyone. Young men sometimes do stupid things, and I got away with more than I deserved to. I certainly wouldn't do it today.

Truth is, I endangered many, many more lives by driving too fast and taking stupid chances on the road - something I very rarely did while drinking. For the most part I got away with that too - but even thinking about it now scares the hell out of me.

Not I. I've always had a DD if I was drinking anywhere other than my house. And if I was drinking at my house I always had a buddy (who is alergic to alcohol) snag keys and make sure they were sober enough to drive home.

I'll admit, I've done it a few times, a couple times very plastered. I've also ridden drunk, whilst the driver was even worse off than I. I'm not proud of it by any means. Since drinking hasn't been a novelty for a long time now, I've grown up some and don't do such things any more. Still, I don't know anyone who drinks and hasn't made this mistake in their life.

Same here. I drink regularly and I have never done it. If my DD bails or I get stranded I call a cab. It's my responsability to get myself home safely, I can't risk everyone else's life because I wanted to have fun. If you're not going to be responsable don't drink. A cab costs less than your beers did anyways.

I try to avoid driving if I've had more than 4 but I do it occassionally. I do it with 4 or less more than I'd like. Reality of living 20 minutes from everyone is that you are crashing on people's couches a lot or driving home after having some drinks.

Had a close call. Was a mile from home once and was making a left turn and was staring at the cop parked in the dark off the road to make sure it was a cop and turned a little bit into the wrong lane. Passed the sobriety test though and he didn't breathalize me (woulda failed).

Driving with someone who has been drinking, often times more than 5, happens once or twice a week. I've never been really afraid of driving with some of my buddies who have had more than 5 as you would never be able to tell driving behind them and they actually drive the speed limit and obey traffic laws.

I can honestly say that I don't know anyone that has never driven after having some drinks. Everytime I go out, I'm fairly certain that 90% of the people around me will be all driving home after last call. its just what happens when there isnt public transportation or cabs.
