I'm about to start computer programming this fall in college and would like to know what you guys think about it. Also, trying to find out how many programmers populate the anandtech forums:)

I had to do some minor programming at my old job and it was boring to me. But the main programmers were totally fascinated by it and loved it.

I'm a programmer (Java, Visual Basic) and am starting to get sick of it. I've only been at it for 2 years, but coding line after line just isn't cutting it for me anymore.

*edit for spelling*

It isnt't part of my job description, but sometimes it is easer to just create something than have to explain it to our programmers. Programming is always usefull to know.

<< he said programmer, not web developer >>

I won't flame because I'm sure your emoticon at the end denoted sarcasm? :)

Hi, my name is Chad, and I am a developer. I spend much of my time trudging through (listed from client->server) ASP, VB and C++ using COM+ transactions for middle-tier and third-tier components, countless stored procedures, and then of course I spend much of my time tuning our SQL Server 2k database, etc..

On my own time, I like to create the most wildly complex scenario for a given project just so I can keep my skills fresh (and I enjoy it). .NET has been my main interest for quite a while, as has Java, and still Win32 ASM w/ MASM for some lower-level stuff when I want a change. Most recent was a simple 3-tier application w/ multiple interfaces that returned recordsets or an xml string or DOM to the client, which then (for the xml interface) translated the xml (using an xslt) to html or wml for a web browser or wap-capable device (my Samsung 8500 phone), respectively.

No greater aspect of IT than development I tell you. I love it...
