I like to if possible.
When I was in the Navy our local Auto-Port rented stalls with hydrolic lifts for about 2 bucks an hour.

Next time I change it I'll put in a K&N filter with some quality synthetic oil.
Want to see how long I can go.

That's why I've always changed my oil as well... you really don't know what the oil places do to your car. Also, I prefer not to use the $1 a gallon cheap-o Wal-Mart oil and 50 cent filter.

I've always changed my own oil but right now I don't have a car in DC, so I don't change any oil at the moment.

I do it in spring/summer/fall, take it to a shop run by a friend of a friend in winter.

I change my own oil, If i need work done on my car at the time of a change, i might just pay to have them do it while they are in there, but I get the oil I want, and a car company filter for about 20 bucks tops. Works out to be pretty cheap and I actually like working on my car.

Always dispose of oil properly. I take mine to the oil change place. They'll gladly take it as thye just sell the used stuff back to oil recyclers to be turned into something useful again.

Honda uses their own oil and filter.

I do everything on the STi, the other cars, I just let someone else deal with it. I don't have time to deal with all of them.

Changing the oil in my SUV is really easy, I don't even have to jack it up - just slide under and go to work. Using ramps is far easier for changing the oil in a car then jack/jack stands. If the wheels don?t have to come off I use the ramps. The trick to changing your own oil and making it go smoothly is to use some common sense. This has to be about the EASIEST car maintenance task of all. Anyone with half a brain can think their way through an oil change ? even if you have no experience working on cars at all.

Used oil is NOT a big deal. I buy my oil in 5 quart jugs. The used oil goes back into the jug that the new oil came from. The next day on the way to work I stop by an auto parts store that is on the way and leave the jug with them - this takes 1 minute tops. Ohh so incontinent!!

Where do you live that oil changes cost $40???? I can get all synthetic oil here for $30. Standard oil changes cost between $15 and $25.

It costs $125 for an oil change on my wife's Lexus at the dealership.
