How many of you change your own oil?

Change oil, (re)build engine, mods, etc. There are only a few things I dont do that require special equiptment like alignments and tire mounting.

I'd try it, but I'm not sure how to reset the service reminder on the trip computer if I did.

Try the manual, and why is the service reminder a big deal? I havn't reset mine in 80K miles. All I do is change my oil every 3 months which is probably in the 4000-5000 mile range.

Oil changes, coolant flushes, brakes, electrical, belts, plugs, clutch changes everything is done by yours truly. And it's a real PITA sometimes, but I have my pride and my cheapness to consider.

I leave oil changing to the professionals.

It is my current car or the one I had before it that the oil changer always got burned while changing the oil. I think I will pass on that experience..

Wow americans do change oil a hell of alot! must be costly how much does say a gallon of oil cost you people?

There's a big emphasis on oil changes but not so much on stuff like air filters etc, do people pay as much attention to these too?

I was just curious.

You flush brake fluid after every 5000 miles too? that stuff lasts for years!

Maybe he put in better brake fluid for auto-x or something???

My cars only touch the dealer once, when they are bought, otherwise I do the work myself, or if it is complicated or I do not have the tools I take it to a local tuner/mechanic. I've been going to JDM for years now.

I used to, and still do with the kids to help them understand a little more about cars, but I wasn't saving a whole lot. Mostly just did it for the experience and pleasure.

Nowadays, I usually just bring it in, but that's also due to not having a driveway anymore.

We know how to take car of our cars. I'm on a DI replacement with MAF replacement every 10000 (though it may seem redundant). Air filter, plugs, oil, fluid flushs (PS included), wheel bearings, rotors, pads, CVs. Anything besides tranny, engine I'll do.
