I'm not putting a poll up because I want to hear reasons. Well, for me I'm not getting them until later next year when the Computer Shop that I volunteer for (they're my friends I'm not stupid) gets a bunch of copies of Vista and I'll just get one of those. Either that or by the time SP1 comes out I'll pirate it. Anyways, since I'm not going to be able to use DX10 I'm just going to get a second 7900GT KO and put the in SLI.

I have an X1900XT so I probably won't need to upgrade until the end of next year, which is fine by me because there will be like two DirectX 10 titles out there until then and I don't feel like buying Vista just to play two games.

If Halo 2 is out on time then I will probably upgrade to RD600 and DX10. Sort of crazy since I just built this rig, but oh well.

Most people that bought 7800 series when it was launched last year will buy G80/R600 when they are out. When they have a DX10 capable card they will be using vista ;( or dual booth : vista/XP. I bet you by feb 2007 i will see craploads of people in the video thread running vista/DX10.

I saw let other people butt their heads against the bugs. My current setup should remain perfectly viable through 2007, though I may choose to drop in a 65nm A64X2 after their release. I won't be bothering with a DX10 card nor Vista for a while.

Aren't the first gen DX10 cards supposed to have ungodly high power requirements as well? I definitely don't want to buy a 5.25in bay PSU to power my video card.

200W only Bateluer :( SLI/Crossfire = 400W Quad SLI = 480W

All you need is a Case that supports 2x PSU : buy 2x 520W PSU ... one for the comp and other for Video card and then Case Fan 2x 520W PSU $55 each

happy :?

Some of us will wait to see what DX10 cards are actually going to be like, & for what price, & what performance, before making posts on when we'll buy them ;)

Until I get Vista I wont need DirectX10. Since it wont be out til next year I see no reason to 'need' DirectX10 just to have DirectX10. I plan to keep using XP Pro through next year so DirectX10 isnt a must for me. If I get one of the new cards it'll be because I need a newer better card for gaming. If it has DirectX10 fine. if it doesnt then no biggie. Everyone thinks they need DirectX10 and I think its rather amusing. They are falling for the MS hype that Mr. Gates wants everyone to believe. XP isnt going away anytime soon and considering its the predominant O/S right now game designers will make sure their games will run on it for a few more years to come. MS isnt going to stop supporting XP the moment Vista comes out. It'll take a couple years at least befor that happens. Unless you are going to upgrade to Vista right away as soon as it comes out there really isnt a need to worry about DirectX10.

I am waiting on the next Gen cards. However I dont give two shats about the DX10 capabilities, but its DX9 performance.

Right now my 6800GT is doing a fine job at keeping up with the games I have been trying out. But it is starting to show its age.

Conroe + next gen card ftw!

I just sprung for Conroe and a 7900gtx to boot. Screw additional expensive upgrades. I think my 360 is going to get more of my time and I don't have to worry about DX10, video cards, processing speed and the rest of the assorted crap from the PC world.

It depends... If the "DX10" cards are also the fastest DX9 cards (as they should be) and there is a game out that I want to play that is resource intensive, I will most likely get one (or two) even before Vista is out. On the otherhand, if the DX9 gain is marginal (or non-existent) and they suck down power like there's no tomorrow, then I won't... Of couse, eventually, I'll have a DX10 card and Vista, the timeframe just depends on how good they both are.

I have Vista RC1, and right now I wouldn't even consdier the possibility of using it as my primary OS. Aside from any gaming/DX10 issues, right now it just feels sluggish overall compared to XP, and my PC ranks over 5 in all of the Experience ratings (all except the IDE HD it's installed on). I realize that it's still not done yet so it might not be representative of final release performance.

Good for you, why bother getting a 7900GTX if you dont plan on playing games?

I on the other hand play PC games, consoles dont interest me in the least, except for sports games.

I got a high end rig now, no point messing with it just because Vista/DX10 comes out. By the time any good DX10 games are out, we'll probably also have second gen DX10 cards, and maybe the K8L, and then I'll build a new rig. If Crysis and Unreal 3 come out before then, a x1900xt on WinXP/DX9 should handle em just fine.

If I can get better performance than my X1900AIW for under $200, then sure, I'd hit it.

Hmmm... thanks for that. I figured nvidia would be a little less demanding considering their past models, what about the intermediate ones like the ATi x1950 pro and xtx?
