i know most of you here love tweaking your computers, but what about those cars? ;) who here likes to get their hands dirty and would take fixing/tweaking/rebuilding cars over computers?

I dont know anything about cars. My dad laughed at me when I told him that I thought when you plug your car in on cold nights, that its to keep the battery warm :D

I am a wrenchhead toph. Just bought a new hotrod a little over a month ago (2001 SS Z28) and pulled a all-weekender and installed a 12psi Vortech supercharger weekend before last. Used to have a 66 chevelle SS 396 until last summer when I sold it.

I also know jack schitt about cars. in fact, I don't know what a starter or alternator is. *feels horribly ashamed that a girl knows more about cars than me* but then again, I was never really interested about cars except for the time I could have been scammed.

I'm sorry, btu when I read this thread I had the impulse to make another one entitled "How many of you grease your monkey?"

Oh, and as for me I could change the oil if you gave me a manual. Beyond that I can change a wheel like you've never seen...and I could probabaly do a piss-poor job of setting up a car stereo...I self-serve my gas and put in windshield washer when its empty (and when I can find the tank opening).

I live in both those worlds. In fact, like others, the two worlds overlap: MP3 players and computers in cars, and "wrenchead" and DIY technology in the computer (ie, heat-forming pvc pipe into ducting for cpu cooling).

Putting the finishing touches on a 5 Litre Ford I've rebuilt the weekend. Should be driving the pickup Sunday.

I don't really 'like' getting my hands dirty. It's just that I'll be damed if I pay someone to do something I can do...probably better!

Sort of. My brother's more cars, and I get the computer end, but there's some overlap. Too bad the silly fool broke the starter on the '78 chevy, so until we talk our dad into buying us a new one, the truck ain't going anywhere.

I can work on cars fairly well. I just don't like[/] to do it. I only do it when I'm feeling too cheap to pay someone else.

Since I got my first car, I've done nothing but homework on it. I know about everything under the hood. I've replaced small stuff like sensors, spark plugs and wires (nothing much at all). I haven't really had to remove anything bigger than that yet. I'm looking to make this a hobby though, I'm thinking about installing some minor mods on my new car, so hopefully I'll learn something doing that :)

I am a fully trained and certified Ford tech, have a degree from community college in auto repair, am now a service manager......the car business sucks! I am currently studying some of the IT stuff and hope to be out of this business in a year or so.(open to suggestions from some of you about which route to follow)
