How many of you actually go to the library anymore?

Do you go to the library to quench your thirst for knowledge?

  • Yes - I love thinking. My local library, is there to help me.

  • No - I dont give two poops about going to the library for the hell of it.

  • To hell with Libraries. I <3 Wikipedia.

In the sense of "gaining knowledge"? In other words, not looking for a reference for a school project. I'm talkin' bout, going to the library to quench your "intellectual curiosity" thirst?

A couple times a year i guess. I don't go in looking for anything in particular, just wander the stacks/magazines and pick up something interesting.

My local library is "too small", according to the city, so last year they removed a lot of the books and installed more computers instead. <facepalm> Fortunately I can request materials from anywhere in the system and have them delivered to my local branch, so the only thing I use it for is to pick up stuff I've requested. It's a damn shame too, I used to work there in HS and it was a lot nicer to browse back then.

I do. While it's nice to get a lot of info off the net, sometimes it's great to have a book in hand.

My county library sent me a notice that they want me to either use my city's own library or pay $80 per year to use theirs. For that kind of dough, I'd rather get Netflix.

I voted no, but it's because I live in a small town with a small library. If I didn't have to drive 30 minutes to get to a decent one, I would go.

I started going again once my older son was ready. My wife usually brings him, but he like to go there with dad sometimes too :)

All the time ... I love it, the kids love it. We probably go on average once every two weeks. Was my favourite thing as a kid.

Since I was a young child I've probably averaged two trips a month, 8-12 books per trip. I nearly stopped while I was in school because I could use the inter-college loan system instead, and discovered online journals & databases. Now I'm back to the regular library system.

its probably been 6+ years for me. i dont read enough to where buying books is cost prohibitive. i also have a job now. and as a kindle user, dont want no paper. ill check out the e-lending options once its more prevalent, but id probably rather spend 5 bucks on a book than 1 hour on a library trip.

I borrow hobby (gardening, homebrewing etc...) and programming books occasionally, for personal knowledge gain.

I personally don't. Not anymore. Takes me too long to get through a novel so I just buy. Mind you, a lot of people do. My home town is currently up in arms after they shut down the downtown branch.

Went up to my first year of university. Then I went to the computer lab. Come to think of it, I stopped looking at the books section of the bookstore; I just go to read magazines.

If I ever get me a baby mama, I'd probably take it there.

I haven't been to the library since college. My aunt works there, so she'll occasionally check out books for me, which I'll promptly lose, and she'll renew them for several years until someone puts a hold on it and I either find it or cough up the money. When I look at it like that, my aunt kinda sounds like she's in the librarian mafia...

Anyways, no, I don't go to the library. It's pretty much become just a place for homeless people to look up porn.
