How many mobos out there support dual X16 PCI-Express?

Just a thought to think about.

To have 2 X16 slots, you have to have switches capable of 5 GB/s. That's pretty crazy.

So 6 X16 slots would require 14GB/s of bandiwdth. Not to mention that would mean individiually controlling 96 lanes.

It's the equivalent of making a controller to harness 96 GBit ethernet ports.

I think you all are asking too much. X1 slots are fine for most preherprials. More will be given as the chipset tech improves. The thing that's so great bout PCI-E is that it's so scalable in terms of demands of the era. I don't doubt that eventually we might have X32 slots.

I think a number of motherboards are coming with 2*16 slots. If you use one of them you get 16*, if you use both you actually get 2*8. Like people have said nothing actually needs anything like *8 yet so there is no performance loss.
