How many miles do civics/accords from the 98ish era last?

OK, so in looking at cars how many miles they'll last before some catastrophic repair is needed is a factor for me. I'm looking at Civics/Accords from the late 90's right now, how many miles do they usually last for, generally, like ballpark figure, assuming they've been taken good care of, and not beaten on too much.
 
I read a Washington post article a while ago from a reporter who had over 1 million miles on a mid-90's Civic or Accord. I believe it was a Civic, but I can't find that article anymore.
 
I drive a 96 civic with 90k on it, gotta do the timing belt this next summer most likely. The only thing I don't like about it is that the defrost sucks and the windows fog up like none other.

It was either a 90 or 91 Accord Wagon.

And yes, chances are you may need 1 or two repairs but definitely nothing major.
 
My 1992 Accord has 130k miles.

It needed a common problem with the starter motor fixed. $120. And the front axile needed repair. That was about $600.

I've had it for nearly 5 years, but it seems to be in good condition.
 
Be aware that though they may mechanically hold in there, they certainly aren't built very well. My 96 Civic EX (149k) has been aquiring rattles in the dash and doors fairly rapidly in the past year. This is something that no maintenance can prevent. Its purely a matter of build quality. In contrast, my 91 Galant with 200k is solid as a tank. You go to remove a panel and if its never been removed before you better make certain that you don't strip the head. Everything was assembled very tightly at the factory.

Hondas are built cheaply to keep the costs down and it definitely shows if you have experience with anything thats well built.

wow....other than the dodge dart my mom had before I was born up until I was 7 we didn't have one last close to that. We had a Dynasty, it hit about 140,000 but alternator/oil leaks/starter were problems with it along the way...again nothing major, it honestly got the job done, but at 140 it threw a piston

Is it the type of rattle that dynamat could take care of?
 
If you take care of it it'll rust out before the drivetrain dies. That's been my huge gripe with Hondas -- the horrible rusting.

 
I still have an Olds that has 199k on it still running. My parents had one that had 235k before it finally went.
